Summary
DescriptionMalpas Court, Newport - geograph.org.uk - 1431680.jpg |
English: Malpas Court, Newport Malpas Court is a Grade II listed building, originally designed by Thomas Wyatt of London and built in the 1830s for the Prothero family. Thomas Prothero was resident here during his year as High Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1846.
The house was still listed as belonging to the Prothero family in 1901. For some years in the second half of the 20th century it was a social club, but by 1998 it was in considerable disrepair. Newport Council, with grants from various sources totalling £3.5 million, oversaw a major redevelopment project. The official reopening was performed by the Duke of Edinburgh on November 27th 2008. The building will be used as a training centre by Newport Wastesavers, and for community projects. |
