Flower borne by large plant in stand of several, growing as weeds in an area used as a dump for garden waste / compost heap not far from the Gothic Tower in Painshill Park, Cobham, Surrey, U.K. Nicandra physalodes is both a garden plant and a cosmopolitan weed. Its seeds are often included in commercial bird-seed mixtures. It is of dubious edibility, having been reported as a pot-herb, a medicinal plant, a poisonous plant and a plant poisonous to stock. Contains withanolides ( class of steroidal lactones ).
