How it works

[edit]

Editing Fridays are casual events where Wikipedia Ambassadors and others collaborate to improve important but neglected Wikipedia articles. Want to try your hand at editing in a safe, friendly environment? Join us for the next Editing Friday.

The core time for Editing Friday is from 6-11 pm Eastern time on Friday (3-8 pm Pacific, 22:00-03:00 UTC), or into Saturday, as the case may be. Many people contribute before or after that window, if that particular time period isn't convenient.

We'll be chatting while we work, too, so it's a great chance to meet experienced editors and get help. Join the chat at #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect.

Proposed articles

[edit]
Historical fiction
Rationale : easily definable topic, with plenty of open ends for people to read about books or literature they are interested in in exploring the Literary criticism

  3. --Guerillero | My Talk 18:17, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Online identity
Rationale: A fairly relevant and interesting topic that needs to be made a bit more cohesive in style and structure.

  2. This one will be tricky, but it is definitely an interesting topic that could use some attention.--ragesoss (talk) 00:28, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  3. --Guerillero | My Talk 03:40, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Environmentalism
Rationale: This page needs a bit of fixes to raise it to B class. It looks doable with the team that we have right now

Artist
Rationale: completely unreferenced and a core article in art

Wikipedian
Rationale: We are all Wikipedians, but this article is currently a redirect that just leads to an article that tells nothing about what a Wikipedian is. I know there are lots of sources for us out there so this should be a fairly fun article to write.

Hm- the article it redirs to would be interesting to work on as well. It's not a complete representation. sonia 00:12, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would be willing to work on either article. They both have great potential if we can find the sources --Guerillero | My Talk 00:42, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We'll just cite our user pages. On an interesting note, it looks like thousands of pages might link to that one because it seems to have been used in a template at one point for warning vandals. We still might use it now though, but I have no reason to check out that fact. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 20:45, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose
  1. The question of what a wikipedian is seemed fairly self evident to me, so I edited the opening paragraph to say (added words in bold), 'The community of Wikipedia is a loosely knit network of volunteers or "wikipedians" who make contributions to the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia.' What do wikipedians do? Everything. Wait, everything? Yes, everything. ;) I supposed the term could be capitalized if you'd like. I kind of think that anything else would be unreferenced and unverifiable statements about the great body of editors that contribute to Wikipedia but if someone else is willing to write up an actual article that conforms to Wikipedia's editing standards then more power to you! :) Banaticus (talk) 22:44, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Full stop
Rationale A very important article, however it has some major issues - needs more refs, possibly contains OR, lead needs to be re-written, unsourced statements, needs expert attention etc. Quite allot of problems, individual editors may be daunted by the task - though with a large team of editors it is hopefully possible to improve :)

6 May 2011: Students' Choice

Time
9-11pm Eastern; 6-9pm Pacific; 01:00-03:00 UTC

For this next one, I have an idea: let's try to invite students, and we'll work on whatever article(s) they want, whether their assigned articles or other topics they are interested in.--ragesoss (talk) 01:17, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  2. It will keep us on out toes. Is there a place that is easier to get to then IRC for us to link the students to. (Don't we have a subscription to pad or whatever its called where each person writes in their own color) --Guerillero | My Talk 01:58, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we could use Etherpad: http://etherpad.wikimedia.org/ IRC is more comfortable for chatting, though, if the editing is happening on-wiki.--ragesoss (talk) 02:05, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest sticking with IRC, but having prominent links to both client-based and web-client versions. Also having somebody available via email to help out if people have trouble connecting couldn't hurt. I could do that. -Pete (talk) 16:27, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
