[edit]Category:Chemistry compounds templates
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Chemical compound templates and Category:Chemical compound navigational boxes, respectively. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 14:55, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Chemistry compounds templates to Category:Chemical compounds templates
- Propose renaming Category:Chemistry compounds navigational boxes to Category:Chemical compounds navigational boxes
- Nominator's rationale: There is no article for chemistry compounds at this time (but perhaps it might make a good redirect...) In any case, it seems this template container cat is better suited to chemical compounds templates, rather than chemistry compounds templates, inline with Chemical compound, Category:Chemical compounds, and etc. Utopes (talk / cont) 23:49, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support Grammatical improvement and in line with existing categories. Reconrabbit 18:08, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Rename instead to Category:Chemical compound templates and Category:Chemical compound navigational boxes – compound should not be pluralised here. – Fayenatic London 12:05, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Works for me. Support. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:01, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Reconrabbit: do you support this alternative move target? HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:18, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Certainly, I support any change that eliminates the phrase "chemistry compounds". This looks good. Reconrabbit 11:23, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Works about ships

- The result of the discussion was: keep. A different rename proposal might have a better chance at gaining consensus. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:19, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Works about ships to Category:Works about watercraft
- Propose renaming Category:Songs about boats to Category:Songs about watercraft
- Propose renaming Category:Video games about ships and boats to Category:Video games about watercraft
- Nominator's rationale: These three categories all about the same thing but none of them use the same format. Using the more board term would be perfect. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 23:14, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose When I think "watercraft" I think about Personal watercraft, not boats. I don't think any typical person would immediately associate "watercraft" with all forms of water vehicle. Category:Ships appears to be the parent category of boats, so they should all be renamed simply "ships" or "ships and boats". ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:20, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose this way, as the target is less clear than the current name. I am for harmonization of the three names though, at "ships" or "boats" or "ships and boats". Marcocapelle (talk) 15:42, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Ship and boat are nautical terms with differing definitions and usage. I think mixing them together does a disservice to categorisation. And Category:Boats should not be a subcat of Category:Ships. - jc37 12:56, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Comment perhaps I should have went for the target of "___ about ships and boats" instead. Also, for now, let's not decide to need to divide the ones about boats and the ones about ships (i.e. needing to have both Category:Songs about ships andCategory:Songs about boats. The combination of the two topics works a lot better as ships are basically just very large boats. QuantumFoam66 (talk) 01:33, 14 September 2024 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:50, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Unhelpful for navigation as contains no actual diplomatic missions and only one article, the List of diplomatic missions in Eritrea. AusLondonder (talk) 19:43, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support I assume that this category had a bunch of pages which were deleted (following AfDs like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Embassy of the United States, Asmara (2nd nomination)). As such, the category isn't needed now and can be deleted. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:03, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Category:Landlord members of the Parliament of the United Kingdom
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:49, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This category appears to have been created on the basis of information in the register of members' interests as at August 2024. It appears to have been added to many MPs' articles, unsupported by any source or content in the article.
It seems unlikely that each member's entry will be checked each year to see whether they still rent out one or more properties, so the categorisation is transient and likely to become inaccurate. The category does not distinguish between the MP who rents out their permanent home while relocating to their constituency or London, and the MP who is a professional portfolio landlord. The List of landlord Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom is a more useful way of listing MPs who are landlords, as it can offer a broader picture (ie number of properties of different types), with sources and associated sourced commentary on the topic. PamD 19:30, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support in principle, but selective merge to British landlords/landowners for the few that are sourced. Mason (talk) 03:04, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support: hard to maintain accuracy, and scope is vague – are MPs with interests in property-owning companies included? Wire723 (talk) 09:55, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete, not a defining characteristic. The register exists exactly because else we would not even have known. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:52, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete per Marco. Both the category and the list List of landlord Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom are HIGHLY deficient in not clarifying what period they are covering - it seems to be only MPs in the current Parliament, but they badly need to say. - The result of the discussion was: no consensus. Thorough discussion; unlikely a WP:RELIST will help. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:55, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Propose disambiguating Category:Palestinian people
- Nominator's rationale: undiscussed disambiguation by Sakakami. Web-julio (talk) 17:27, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, Web-julio, for bringing it here. Let's discuss my proposal. My rationale is that the word 'Palestinian' can have multiple and complex meanings. For example, until 1948—and possibly even after that—those who would later become Israeli Jews also referred to themselves as Palestinians. Even if my proposal for disambiguation is not supported, these two categories should still be merged. --Sakakami (talk) 17:47, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Agree that the title is ambiguous, but if this is turned into a dab page, what should then happen with the subcategories that are currently in this category? Marcocapelle (talk) 18:05, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Initially, they could be merged into Category:People from the State of Palestine. Later on, some of them might be renamed, but that would likely require a separate discussion? Sakakami (talk) 18:08, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Keep perhaps I am missing something but there are millions of Palestinians who are not from the State of Palestine. They live in the Palestinian diaspora.--User:Namiba 20:45, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Keep as the shift to a dab page would be really disruptive for existing child categories, numerous templates, and I really just don't see the benefit to disrupting the tree without really clear benefits and a well established plan for the related categories. [edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete. HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:43, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: WP:NONDEF. Such traits are rarely character-defining; for example, Count Dracula, who is listed here, will be recalled by most people as "the archetypal vampire" rather than "the fog and smoke guy". Also, this granularity of categorization for fictional characters is better suited to TV Tropes or fan wikis. The many other similar categories will also need to be nominated for the deletion if people agree with me about this one. Sandstein 12:53, 9 September 2024 (UTC)
- Delete It is way too narrow to be defining, and is an example of over-categorization when simply "having superpowers" would suffice. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 12:56, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Lighthouses completed in the 14th century to Category:Transport infrastructure completed in the 14th century and Category:Medieval lighthouses
