Suspected sockpuppets [edit]

Evidence submitted by Kinu [edit]

Highly likely a sockpuppet, given the username, but the contribution appears useful, so a second opinion is possibly warranted per WP:AGF. Kinu t/c 23:17, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, it turns out that I actually blocked one of the other sockpuppets for creating the same article, Conor Clifford, that I found this one at not too long ago. Ugh! Don't I feel dumb now. :) Clearly passes the WP:DUCK test. I'llgo ahead and block. Hope I didn't waste anyone's time here... --Kinu t/c 02:44, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note: Alex latham (talk · contribs) was active five months before 10alatham (talk · contribs) and blocked four months earlier, so I would think he should be the sockmaster here. Alzarian16 (talk) 13:14, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if he is on a fixed or floating IP, but this is getting a little repetitive now.--ClubOranjeT 05:54, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, huh. Alright, then, I've moved this case to 10alatham. — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 20:33, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

information Administrator note It is painfully clear that this user is creating socks to create new articles, mostly on football-related BLPs. I have already invoked WP:CSD#G5 on a couple of them, and I suggest others go through all his socks' other creations to see if they meet G5 in that a sock of 10alatham created and have had no significant contribs by others. –MuZemike 20:46, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that some socks aren't listed either here or in the archive. 2011alatham, 2012alatham, and so on aren't listed. Is there a list of the rest that I'm not seeing? — HelloAnnyong (say whaaat?!) 21:15, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
They came up in different places and I don't think they were ever centrally listed. I know I caught some after an ANI posting about it. TNXMan 21:22, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The two new accounts are  Confirmed as being the same as each other and I've blocked them. The range here appears to be a /13, so there's not much we can do but report them as they come in. If they're targeting a certain article or set of articles, semi-protection would be a good option. TNXMan 12:35, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Duck quacking loudly, after apparently several months inactivity. Creation of articles about young footballers, either not notable or of marginal notability, with content copypasted from club websites and news reports, as at Curtis Obeng, Alexander Kačaniklić. Duck: e.g. adding club website copyvio to footballer page. Also, edited Alexander Kačaniklić, a page originally created by one of the two recent socks, and created a tribute page to his late grandfather who shared the surname Latham. The annoying thing is, he started creating apparently properly sourced articles, I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and all the time he was gradually converting this football club squad template to the contents of this different club's squad, and then moved the damn thing. And the apparently properly sourced articles contained significant amounts of unsourced info. At which point I gave up on AGF. Rant over :-( Struway2 (talk) 23:13, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, I'm not entirely convinced by this one. The name is obviously the same and the subject area the same, but the old account didn't actually create any articles. The subject area of Premier League footballers attracts a lot of editors; the name could just be a coincidence. Basalisk inspect damageberate 21:54, 17 July 2012 (UTC) On reflection, my input here is pretty pointless seeing as I can't review the deleted contribs. Basalisk inspect damageberate 23:28, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

From memory the previous accounts actually created about 100 articles between them, but virtually every one was deleted as either a copyvio or non-notable (or quite often both). The new one seems to me to fit the established pattern exactly. Alzarian16 (talk) 22:33, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Latham 2015 is pretty straight forward given the user name. Previous socks include 2011alatham, 2012alatham, 2014alatham, 6 December 2010 Alex Latham, Alex Latham 2012, and Bolton Wanderers F.C.- Alex Latham, just to name a few. The last of these is particularly telling, since Bolton Wanderers appears to be the focus of this account.

TH Coaster has twice created an article on Dominic Collins (footballer) (under Dom collins the first time), which previous socks have created at least twice. Sir Sputnik (talk) 16:17, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I reported quite a lot of the Latham socks when they were active 3+ years ago. When TH Coaster re-created the Dominic Collins page, a popular Latham target, Sir Sputnik asked me whether I thought it might be a Latham sock. I said I couldn't remember the style all that clearly, but it didn't strike me as familiar. The article created by Alex Latham 2015, Quade Taylor, is about a young footballer who does pass the WP:NFOOTBALL notability guideline, which is atypical but not unprecedented, but the writing style in this one is absolutely classic Latham. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:12, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Per the evidence (username and writing style) I have  Blocked and tagged Alex Latham 2015 but I don't find the evidence strong enough towards TH Coaster, and comparing the August 2010 version to the May 2015 version of the Domininc Collins article doesn't reveal striking resemblance. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  21:31, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • User Sir Sputnik identified a connection between MHLATHAM1969 (talk · contribs), an account blocked as a sock of Sir gidabout, and this sockfarm. I am inclined to agree based on this sock's username matching a pattern used by 10alatham socks, along with other socks previously linked to Sir gidabout, and significant common area of interest between the two cases. There is no prior SPI for Sir gidabout but they have accumulated many blocked socks and flagged IPs.
  •  On hold: as of this edit the Sir gidabout socks have been partially re-tagged, and I will complete the process tomorrow unless another clerk beats me to it.
Done. Closed. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 18:07, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

I'd like to check if a rangeblock of the 2A02:901A:5300::0/64 range is possible. (I hope I formatted that correctly.) The four IP's listed above are probably the most obvious examples of sockpuppetry in this range. The first three all at various points interfered with the WP:G5 speedy deletion of Ángel Viadero. The fourth is already blocked as a sockpuppet. If you look at this, you'll find that IP's from this range have also shared 10alatham's interest in updating football managerial statistics. A word search for the term produces 287 hits in the last six months, and you'd be hard pressed to find one to an article not previously updated by one of the previous socks in this case. Furthermore, if we a assume all such updates are 10alatham, it looks like there's no one else editing from this range, so the risk of collateral damage should be minimal. information Administrator note yeah, I can do that. Range blocked for a month. I'm not sure this will stop him, though. Going from the deleted article's history, he seems to have access to other ranges. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 23:39, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets[edit]

This editor shares 10alatham's interest in updating football managerial statistics, with all but two of the BLP's they updated having been previously updated by other 10alatham socks. Additionally, the two IP edits to the article on Miguel Ángel Álvarez Tomé created by this editor were from two different IP ranges 10alatham previously used. A CU check against BCAA2019 (talk · contribs) should easily be possible. The account may not be confirmed to 10alatham, but I think it's obvious enough that it may as well be. Sir Sputnik (talk) 14:19, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While were at it, could we also reinstate the rangeblock against the 2A02:901A:5300::0/64 range. (See archive entry for 9 March 2017 for evidence.) It seems to have curbed sockpuppetry from 10alatham somewhat and it looks like they're still the only one using that range. Sir Sputnik (talk) 03:01, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The 2A02:C7F:901A:5300:::/64 range has been previously blocked for evasion by 10alatham. The most recent of these blocks expired a few weeks ago and the evasion promptly resumed. Given that these four IP's, the only ones from the range to have edited since the block expired, have all continued to update football managerial statistics, I think it's fairly safe to assume that it's still being used by 10alatham. Here we have yet another account, registered shortly after the last 10alatham sock was blocked, with the same particular interest in updating football managerial statistics in the same articles as previous socks. (See editing histories for Luis César Sampedro, Gaizka Garitano, and Vicente Mir). Additionally, the username continues 10alathams pattern of using garbled strings of letters and numbers for their usernames. Sir Sputnik (talk) 15:41, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Another account who has the same name (Alex h latham, if you replace the numbers 1 and 3 by the letters "L" and "E", respectively). Even though his edits are correct (as his creation of Hernán Pérez Cuesta), he caught my attention by reverting a completely correct template (BDFutbol season) for no apparent reason. User has the same interest on editing managerial statistics of Spanish football managers (see editing histories for Mehdi Nafti, Imanol Idiakez, and Sergio Francisco).
