Why is it not "referenda" instead of "referendums?"
[edit]Apologies if this is answered by a wiki style guide but M-W seems to indicate "referenda" is preferred? Ccollum92 (talk) 03:21, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- Wikipedia mostly (with few exceptions) tries to mirror the wording found in reliable sources discussing the topic. Most sources say about this topic say "referendums", e.g. the first citation, a Reuters report has:
five days of voting in so-called referendums that Kyiv and the West denounced as a sham
. So Wikipedia follows that. regards, TryKid [dubious – discuss] 10:10, 14 December 2023 (UTC) - ODE, Collins, Cambridge, AHD, and Random House (Dictionary.com) all say plural “referendums or referenda.” —Michael Z. 16:16, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
