Self referential?[edit]

This page links to itself... under the link "virtual cd" --85.210.218.13 20:44, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Original inventor is missing[edit]

How funny. The actually very first program of this kind is missing: Virtual CD!

Virtual CD may have brought the capability to Windows but the concept predates CDs

Merge "Virtual drive" into "Disk image emulator"[edit]

Since virtual drive is a short article, and is very related to the disk image emulator article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Baxeno (talkcontribs) 19:16, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"disk image emulator" gets about 3k Google hits, "disk emulator" 21k. "virtual drive" gets 1m+. Looks like a merge to "virtual drive". Rd232 talk 18:06, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Relevance of "Copyright infringement of software" section[edit]

Current text includes:

Disk image emulators may be used to aid in copyright infringement of software by facilitating the use of disk images of proprietary software distributed over the Internet, often via peer-to-peer file sharing. However, since disk image emulation software has many legitimate uses and does not usually promote copyright infringement, it typically is not considered to violate legislation such as the DMCA.

Such text seems more appropriate for an article on techniques of copyright infringement. It looks like the work of two editors, the first sentence accuses, the second attempts to vindicate.

Moral haggling here seems as irrelevant as a section in a bottle article about crimes committed using bottles: breaking over heads, filling with poisons or contraband, etc. Or a word processing article with a section about how criminals use word processors to write ransom notes. Or a footware article warning against violent criminals who use steel toed shoes to kick people. And so on for almost any object, hammers can murder, mathematical symbols can swindle, nails crucify, paper is used for arson, etc. (All followed by apologies that bottles, footware, et al, have benign uses as well. Equal time!) --AC (talk) 08:38, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

name is wrong[edit]

Should be "disk emulator" not "disk image emulator". Target of the emulation is the "disk" or "drive", not the "disk image". --Voidvector (talk) 20:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree completly HuGo_87 (talk) 05:19, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Use[edit]

"A CD/DVD master used to burn physical discs" disc emulation isn't used for this. Disc IMAGES are used for this. HuGo_87 (talk) 05:21, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
