Google Neural Machine Translation for Wikipedia
[edit]On December 4, 2018, Google announced a partnership with the English and Indonesian versions of Wikipedia to automate translations of some selected WP articles from the first to th latter version of the free encyclopedia. The news is sourced here with a direct reference to the Google blog.
If applied to other versions of Wikipedia, it could become a relevant supporting tool for the growth of other WP projects. But just at the current state of art, the news is relevant for the article, even if it is known only about for two of the existing language versions of Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.223.69.21 (talk) 19:20, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
GNMT has been replaced by a Transformer+RNN system
[edit]This page should be updated to mention this.

Merge
[edit]I think this should honestly be merged into Google Translate. This was one technology used for a period of time, but has been eclipsed by transformers. https://ai.googleblog.com/2020/06/recent-advances-in-google-translate.html
Either that or this page should be renamed into "Technology behind Google Translate".
At the end of the day, knowing how fast Google drops and starts new technologies on the fly, there is no guarantee any of this info will stay relevant. Who knows how long google will stick on transformers? User:Sawerchessread (talk) 01:32, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
