I think that the name Ungarn - Ugri is comming from the name Utigury - the name of the west Hunorian tribe. Another three are - Kutiguri at the east and Onoguri - in the middle. It was durinng 453 A.D. and before when they - Utiguri have been in battle with the Roman empire forces. And their brave name lived for a centures in the west world history.

As far as I know Old Great Bulgaria or Great Bulgaria consisted of few tribes. One of them were the Onogurs, but there were also Utiguri (east from the Don river) and Kutriguri (west from the Don river). During the years, before the establishment and after the fall of Old Great Bulgaria, small parts of the tribes (Onoguri, Utiguri and Kutriguri) may be were separated, but during the period of Great Bulgaria they had been unified by khan Koubrat.

Actually the name of the Hunnish tribes probably came from the bulgarian tribe name Unogonduri or hunogonduri. Hun is a name that actually is given for them from the Roman empire. It's like the name of Atila. His true name is Avetohol and he is actualy from the Bulgarian bloodline of Dulo which names are known from about 200 years BC

Onoguria was NOT Phanagoria

[edit]

This article exists solely because of a mistake. The Empire was Old Bulgaria. Greater Bulgaria was the Bolgar state on the upper Volga. Onoguria was Sirmium. Get your facts together people.

You get your fact that Sirmium was Onoguria. Sirmium was totally destroyed by Avars and for more than two centuries nothing is known about this city, until it is again mentioned under name Sirmium as part of the Frankish State. Claim that Avars renamed the city (while they in fact destroyed it) is ridiculous. PANONIAN (talk) 14:14, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
