Merger

[edit]

As a result of the recent AfD, this article is a "fairly close duplicate" of Water supply and women in developing countries Water issues in developing countries (as concluded by the AfD closer). This article ought to be merged to its duplicate, i.e., Water supply and women in developing countries. I recommend the merger. XavierItzm (talk) 12:40, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, I think you put the wrong article here. It should be merged with Water supply and women in developing countries not with Water issues in developing countries! Question is: what should be the title of the article that remains? The older one, i.e. Water issues in developing countries, or the newer on, i.e. Water access and gender? — Preceding unsigned comment added by EMsmile (talkcontribs) 13:47, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the merge, and think the title should remain "Water access and gender" (per my comments at the AfD). Bilorv(c)(talk) 12:48, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Merge - with Water supply and women in developing countries. Thanks! XavierItzm (talk) 12:50, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please add the link to the AfD here so that it's easier for people to read up on the discussion? I think we should still think about the best title for the new merged article. What is the kind of title which people might put into the search field of Wikipedia? Would they really look for "water access and gender"? I am undecided. The other title is perhaps more easily understood by laypersons? - By the way, if people have an interest in this topic, please also help me to improve the article on developing countries. I have been working on that one on and off but it needs a lot more work. EMsmile (talk) 13:06, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If we merge the information, I think that the title should be "Water access and gender in less developed countries" because "Water access and gender" could encompass developed countries and how water is provided and maintained (infrastructure) and that was also gendered for a while... However, I'm not an expert. I just saw that there was a little bit of information that I didn't have the time (or energy) to chase after in depth. If anyone needs help merging the information, I don't mind working on that. Just ping me. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:45, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note that, as the AfD closer, I didn't recommend the ultimate target of the merge (there wasn't consensus on that, or I may have closed as plain merge). Either of the two titles is fine, as is creating a new one. FWIW I agree with MLG's proposed title, since it seems to most accurately reflect the contents of the articles if they were to be combined. ansh666 19:44, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
ansh could you please still put here the link to the AfD page, as I have difficulties finding it, and it would be useful to have it here, thanks. As for the title, Megalibrarygirl, I would prefer using the word "developing countries" rather than "less developed countries". There are criticisms about the term "developing countries" (please see developing countries - a page that I've been working on improving) but nevertheless the consensus seems to be that it is still OK and PC to use it. FYI the term least developed countries has its own page again. EMsmile (talk) 04:15, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's at the top of this talk page. See the line, "This page was nominated for deletion on 14 April 2018. The result of the discussion was keep."? The discussion is linked from, aptly "the discussion". Thanks, ansh666 04:16, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - silly of me, but I totally overlooked that hyperlink. Thanks again. EMsmile (talk) 08:00, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ansh666 and EMsmile: do you think it might be good to have a redirect? I found a lot of sources using the term "less developed countries" but I personally don't mind using any of the above. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 17:23, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Megalibrarygirl good idea, and I just checked: I think the redirect is already in place or did you mean a different variation of the term? EMsmile (talk) 13:14, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EMsmile: I meant a redirect of both terms... but I'm not sure if that will just get messy though. :P Megalibrarygirl (talk) 19:03, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I still don't understand what you mean? Redirect of which terms to where? EMsmile (talk) 04:09, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Merger has been completed. EMsmile (talk) 05:49, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
