This template is intended to be kept in sync with {{USS}}, but as with many things documentation may fall out of sync with code changes. So looking at Template talk:USS may yield additional insight, or not. If one falls too far out of sync, please chastise us over on WP:Ships. Thanks, --J Clear 23:52, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The" with H.M. ships

[edit]

Please see section by the same name in Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (ships) for a discussion on use of "the" or not with H.M. ships. Comments welcome at that page. — Johan the Ghost seance 15:47, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template update

[edit]

Per a discussion at WikiProject Ships, I've updated this template to use {{ship}} as a meta-template. The changes were tested in the template sandbox and the template testcases page. If there are any problems with these changes, please revert and let me know. Thanks. — Bellhalla (talk) 05:08, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ! Could you add [[fr:Modèle:HMS]] to the interwiki links ? Thanks ! Gonzolito (talk) 21:16, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anachronistic Usage

[edit]

His Majesty's Brittanic Ship/Schooner was used in the late 1700s, predating the use of His Majesty's Ship. In the case of the ship Gaspee, I can find references to the ship name in longform as, His Britannic Majesty's Schooner Gaspee but not as HBMS Gaspee.<ref>Bartlett, A History of the Destruction of His Britannic Majesty's Schooner Gaspee, in Narragansett Bay, on the 10th June, 1772: Accompanied by the Correspondence Connected Therewith; the Action of the General Assembly of Rhode Island Thereon, and the Official Journal of the Proceedings of the Commission of Inquiry, on the Same. What's the right thing to do for ships that were never called HMS but were still part of the Royal Navy? --Mike32065 (talk) 01:03, 10 November 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bhickey (talkcontribs) 21:38, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-breaking spaces

[edit]

The "_" (underscore) character is converted into a non-breaking space. This leads to some long titles that do not have breaks in them. I noticed this on the 1773 page. On January 17 the template was used for HMS Resolution (1771) and there was excessive white space at the end of the line before the link. Changing the template to a link fixed this, though this should not be necessary. Mike32065 (talk) 01:03, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
