Jason Woodham

[edit]

Jason Woodham is an American writer, best known as the author of Blaze: A Superhero Origin Story. It is Part I of a forthcoming four-part series entitled The High-Born Epic.[1][2]

Early life

[edit]

Woodham was born in Montgomery, Alabama. He grew up in the southeastern part of the state in the rural community of Echo, Alabama. Woodham graduated from Troy University in 2002 with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary English and Health Education. [3][4]

Career

[edit]

Woodham was formally educated as a teacher. He has worked in the classroom and on the field as a strength and conditioning coach as well as being a personal trainer. Woodham's first book What Warriors Will Stand was released in 2002 by Lava Publications. He received Troy University English Department's Outstanding Achievement in Creative Writing as he was (at that time) the first undergraduate to ever publish a full-length novel. His second book, Blaze: A Superhero Origin Story was released on November 16, 2013 at Fanaticon.[5][6][7]

In his Fanaticon interview, [8] he revealed that his inspiration for writing came from his grandfather and great-grandfather and his interest in Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games, and The Matrix. In another television interview[9] entitled Author's Corner he references the works of Joseph Campbell, especially The Hero with a Thousand Faces. He also says that part of the reason he wrote Blaze: A Superhero Origin Story was to show how "education can be used to control the uneducated" and that there are similarities to the propaganda techniques employed by Joseph Goebbels and Adolph Hitler.

Personal life

[edit]

Woodham currently resides in Ozark, Alabama. In an interview with the Nerd Cave Podcast, he revealed that his "nerdy hobbies" include breaking ciphers and playing StarCraft.[10]
