Komito Analytics[1][2] is a free and open-source plug-in that can be integrated with popular web analytics software to gather additional insights about website visitors and dynamics. It is commonly used to enhance the capabilities of an existing analytical software embedded within the website for tracking online data.

Basically, web analytics software are limited to their predefined set of trackable metrics and dimensions. If the website owner needs to get more information besides the default ones, they would need to write custom code. Most website owners use the same type of analytics data, which leads to code duplication.

The objective of Komito Analytics is to provide a default tracking mechanism for the most popular web interactions. Over the years, there have been multiple enhancements made in Komito Analytics to keep up with the different features for various software that come into demand over time.

Features[edit]

Some of the popular features of Komito Analytics includes:

  • Tracking of social media interactions such as likes, shares, and follows;
  • Tracking downloads based on file extensions;
  • Tracking links that transfer to another page;
  • Tracking the number of users logged into a social media platform;
  • Tracking the CTA links like mailto, tel, sms, and others;
  • Tracking any type of submitted forms;
  • Tracking the actions that involve printing a page;
  • Tracking the depth of scrolling;
  • Tracking events related to HTML5 videos, YouTube, or Vimeo players;
  • Tracking any changes in orientation for pages loaded within a mobile device;
  • Tracking color schemes preferred by users;
  • Tracking page views that were embedded with ad blockers.

Compatibility[edit]

Komito Analytics is relatively flexible and compatible with the most commonly used web analytics software, making it more useful and scalable. These commonly used web analytics softwares include Adobe Analytics, Baidu Analytics, Clicktale, Google Analytics, Particles Analytics, Urchin, and Yandex Metrica.

Installation[edit]

Komito Analytics can be installed using the Node Package Manager[3], WordPress plug-in[4], Google Tag Manager container template[5] or by incorporating a simple JavaScript snippet to a particular website.[6]

History[edit]

Komito Analytics was formerly implemented by Datamart[7] for its internal operations. It was initially released as an EGA (Enhanced Google Analytics) module as a part of the JavaScript library named JSCB (originally short for JavaScript Code Base) and the JavaScript Code Base which was released on August 6, 2013.[8] Since then, it was available for public use in the Google Code Project Hosting. However, after the closing of the Google Code Project Hosting, this library was divided into 3 separate projects - Glize, Greylock, and Komito Analytics[9], and code was transferred to the GitHub repositories.

Popularity[edit]

Komito analytics has gained quick popularity among the web analytics users. Based on 2021 data, Komito Analytics has:

  • Handling more that 10 million unique visitors per month;[10][11]
  • More than 4,000 website owners use Komito Analytics;[12]
  • Mentioned in a book entitled "Learning Google Adwords and Google Analytics" by Benjamin Mangold;[13]
  • Mentioned and recommended by the WordPress community[14];
  • Has footprints in other countries like Mexico[15], Australia[16], Europe[17][18][19] and Vietnam[20].

Licensing[edit]

Komito Analytics is licensed under the Apache 2.0 License. This allows developers to freely use this software for any purpose without the restriction or obligation pertaining to distribution, modification, or distribution of customized versions of Komito Analytics.
