Footballer infobox stats

Hello. When you update a player's stats, please would you at the same time update the correct-as-of timestamp – the |club-update= parameter – to a date or date/time at which the stats are unambiguously correct. The easy way is to replace the contents of the parameter with five tilde characters, so | club-update = ~~~~~, and the system will automatically convert that to the current date and time.

If you don't, it misleads both the reader and the next editor to come along to update the thing. Like you left Roger Johnson's infobox saying he had 5 Charlton appearances correct as of 17 January 2016, which isn't exactly accurate... thanks, Struway2 (talk) 09:52, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman I'm unsure how this is unconstructive? The edit you are refering to was to signify the fact that Jermain Defoe has been recalled to the England national football team squad. I was simply adding lines to show that he had not played for England since 2013. Also the edits made for Stephy Mavididi were valid as they were relating to the most recent news relating to the termination of his loan from Arsenal.

That one edit is less interesting (to me) than the fact that you have over a thousand edits from this IP address without a single edit summary--sorry, one: you have given us one single edit summary, on 15 August 2016. From what you say here I gather you don't understand that information in an encyclopedia has to be verified by reference to reliable sources. When you put these two together, to the observer who doesn't know the intricacies of this are that player, what distinguishes your edits from trolling, vandalism, or willful insertion of incorrect content? Where it says "As of match played" above a career stats table...

... that's what it wants you to put: the date of the last match played by the player (or their team) for which stats are included in the table.

It doesn't want today's date unless you're updating after and including stats for a match played today.

Please stop ignoring this: the as-of date is part of the table, and updating the figures without correctly updating the as-of date makes the whole thing wrong.

It's particularly wrong if the player will be playing a match later today but hasn't yet.

Roger Johnson stats

Hello and thank you for trying to keep Mr Johnson's stats correct and up-to-date. The problem is, both Soccerbase and Soccerway are missing his appearance in one National League match (different ones). Soccerbase don't have his app in the match at Tranmere Rovers on 17 February, Soccerway doesn't have his app in the match at Aldershot on 20 February. Mr Johnson played in both of those fixtures, as confirmed at Bromley F.C.'s website, here for Tranmere and here for Aldershot.
