Croft

I note that you have reinstated some unreferenced material to Croft (land). Your original edit added to a sentence that was already tagged with "citation needed". That tag had been there since 2015. Your edit did not provide a reference either. A reference might have given some insight as to the relevance to the article.

Please do take a look at WP:RS. This is one of the fundamentals of how Wikipedia works. If you put something in an article, generally, that edit should be supported by a reference (or a "source"). That way, anyone else reading Wikipedia can verify that what is there is correct. A source has to be "reliable" - i.e. it is written by someone who meets certain standards of knowledge of the subject. ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 20:01, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

(1)I have looked at the entry for Torppari on Finnish Wikipedia. Thinking in "Scottish land use terminology" the Finnish article has more similarity to that of Cotter (farmer). I think we might all be at the mercy of how some dictionary compiler has translated "croft" into Finnish.
(2) Whatever is said on another Wikipedia, you still need to provide references to support any edits. ThoughtIdRetired (talk) 20:48, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

References must be added to the article, not here, if new information is added. We all have had to learn how to do that.

"Common knowledge", as you wrote here, is not enough, and the Finnish version of his name cannot be used in text in an encyclopedia written in English.
