[edit]
Due to the fact that this username appears to be a role account in violation of Wikipedia:Username policy, and especially due to the fact that this account has been used to promote an individual in main article space and Wikipedia project space violation of WP:NOTPROMOTION and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, I have blocked this account. If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. ~Amatulić (talk) 02:55, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Dear Administrator, My account has been blocked, I respectfully request that the block be removed and my privileges with Wikipedia be reinstated. I appreciate the value Wikipedia has and have no intentions of vandalizing in any way. I believe the two main issues are my User name BNewWiki and a page I created which from the outside looked like it promoted me, it did not. If there are other reasons please alert me.

Professionally I work with many high profile individuals executives and celebrities. I have been developing my skills on Wikipedia so that I can carefully work on pages for people such as Chad Kroeger, Gene Simmons, Deadmau5 and others who I have occasion to come in contact with. I have not yet begun to work on any of those pages for fear of not having the knowledge to do so. Therefore I have been developing skill on low traffic page, which I thought was the right thing to do.

While until today it never dawned on how BNewWiki sounds, I can appreciate that it sounds promotional in nature. My name is Brian Newmark, so people call me "BNew" all the time, it seemed natural. I would be happy to change the name, I propose TexEdit as I am from Texas, but am open to other names. I do apologize for the mistake.

Secondly, a page I created for Boys of Second Street Park has been taken down. I have absolutely no connection with the Brian Newmark on that page. Having the same name is what sparked my interest in creating the page. When I stared on Wikipedia I searched for mentions of "Brian Newmark" and saw the Brian Newmark from Boys of Second Street Park was mentioned on a page for Tales From The Crypt. That gave me the idea to create a page for Boys. There is/was nothing for me to gain by creating the page, I spent a great deal of time creating the page to ensure it was compliant with Wiki guidelines. While another Admin made some changes, overall, the page was solid. The admin who took the page down made reference to Copyright Infringement, but the source of the sentence was used as a reference, so I don't understand there. Again, this is why I was learning on pages such as this one.

I believe these to be the reasons for my being blocked. If there are others, please alert me so I can get back to contributing to Wikipedia. Again, my sincere apologies! - Brian

Why were you edit warring with yourself on Lyoness? Origamite 19:09, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

While I am sure this is going to sound foolish, I simply messed up and hit save instead of show preview, then tried to fix it, which didn't work. While I fully believe Wiki should be a place where people can read the full story, the Lyoness page has been attacked. I have absolutely NO involvement with Lyoness, not even a member, but a friend mentioned it to me, so I went to Wiki to read about them and saw the attack and was simply trying to move the negativity to the Controversy section, where it belongs. I hope this explains my actions and you would be willing to unblock me. My desire to have improve Wikipedia and add quality content.

I am not convinced that you will abide by the Terms of Service regarding undisclosed paid contributions and the goals of Wikipedia -- which explicitly forbid its use for marketing and publicity -- if you are unblocked. MER-C 07:55, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While I appreciate your taking the time to look at this, you can check back through all of my edits. You will not find any which are promotional in nature. The last several I recall making are adding to the Texas Boys Choir page, adding about a government subsidized housing project I read about in the Middle East, making a page about a movie which mentioned someone with the same name as myself which I found on Wiki, the writer is a well respected writer and the movie won a major film festival. I believe the other edits I have done have been fixing broken links. To suggest that I am doing edits for pay makes no sense since the pages I have spent my time are are not in a position to even compensate me. How could an old move or a boys choir pay me? Please reconsider as I have done nothing but try to improve Wikipedia. Keep in mind that I was originally blocked because the user name I have/had could be misconstrued and I did a page mentioning someone with the same name as myself, who I have no relation to, not for writing a page for some new widget coming to market on QVC. Thank you, Brian

Decline reason:

I have looked at your editing history. You said that I woudld "not find any which are promotional in nature". You very probably said that sincerely, but in view of what I found, I really would have thought that you were lying if it were not for the fact that over the years I have over and over again come across similar claims from people who work in advertising/marketing/PR/etc. As far as I can make out, people who work in those areas must get so used to seeing and writing marketing-speak all day every day that they get desensitised to it, and can't see it when it is glaringly obvious to everyone else. If you really really did not think that what you wrote at Wikipedia:Brian Newmark was promotion, then you are so blind to the nature of what you were writing that you are very unlikely ever to be able to edit Wikipedia suitably. Likewise Boys of 2nd Street Park was unambiguously promotional. Some of your other editing too looks like trying to use Wikipedia for promotion, although most examples were not as blatant as those pages. Not all of your editing has been totally blatant promotion, but some of it has, and if you can't accept that, and convince us that you will not do anything similar again, then you are unlikely to be unblocked. I also note your stated intention of writing about people you "have occasion to come in contact with", which sounds as though you are likely to have a conflict of interest.
