Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Orange Mike | Talk 15:45, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I was blocked because I used a corporate-sounding username to edit the page of an organisation. I created that username because I do not know where on the page it is displayed and didn't want my name to look out of place and make the page look less credible. The page was created several years ago, before a major rebrand of this organisation. Because of that, the name of the organisation, links, and services described were all incorrect. The edits made simply outline the main services the organisation currently offers and include citations from the dance press and the website of the organisation. It's a small organisation so there are no other online sources that can be cited. I have not been and am not being paid to edit this.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline. New unblock request was posted below. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:13, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Non-admin comment: The promotional nature of your edits remains unaddressed. This edit, for instance - sounds extremely promotional to me. It reads like an advert. It links to bbodance's website all over the place. I'll ask directly, do you have any form of connection with Bbodance? SQLQuery me! 03:21, 28 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@BobbyLovesDance: You say that you only wanted to update the outdated info, but that is simply not true. You copy-pasted the text from the bbodance official page. That was wrong on several different grounds. First, Wikipedia does not allow copying copyrighted text (please, read WP:COPYPASTE). Second, the text you inserted was promotional in nature (for example, bbodance has devised a safe, progressive, and creative programme...) which is not allowed in Wikipedia. In order to be unblocked, you have to address all those issues and to convince us that you understand them and that you will not be repeating the same behavior if unblocked. You also have to tell us what kind of edits you want to make if unblocked. Vanjagenije (talk) 22:19, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije Good morning. I've had to step away from the Talk page as I felt I was being attacked. This is my first experience with Wikipedia and am quite taken aback by the vitriol. The organization in question is small and is not mentioned in the press or other sources, apart from a few citations. However, some information on the page is clearly out of date, according to the organization's own current website. Therefore, by banning me, Wikipedia is simply promoting incorrect content, which benefits no one. May you please suggest how to proceed?— Preceding unsigned comment added by BobbyLovesDance (talkcontribs) 8:13, 17 August 2020 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is not a venue for promotion. If your organization is not mentioned in the press or other sources, then the article should probably be deleted (see WP:Notability). If you want to be unblocked, you have to make new unblock request. In the request, you have to show us (1) that you understand what was wrong with your previous editing, (2) that you will not be repeating the same behavior, and (3) to tell us what kind of edits you want to make if unblocked. If you wish to continue adding promo/copyrighted material to the Bbodance, your request will not be accepted. Vanjagenije (talk) 12:59, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije Thank you for your advice. I have reviewed the information you provided and understand that my edits seemed promotional rather than factual/objective and that they referenced the website of the organization too much. I will not make the same edits. I will simply correct information that is out of date (e.g., in the grey box, affiliations are listed as Council for Dance Education and Training; however, that is no longer the name of that organization – it’s Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT); the main organ is the Board of Trustees, not Directors, there are two founders, Nicholas Espinosa and Louise Kay (also known as Eve Kelland), etc.). Please grant me access to make these edits. Thank you.

Please, read carefully my previous comment. Vanjagenije (talk) 14:35, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vanjagenije (talk) Hi, I have read and have responded to it above. I gave clear examples of factual information that is incorrect on the page; these would be the only kinds of changes made. The page is currently incorrect, which goes against Wikipedia's purpose. As stated, I do not intend to write promotional copy. Please unblock me. Thank you.
