Helen Nearing

[edit]

There are not many sources that mention "Vegan organic gardening". Helen Nearing objected to animals on her farm but no references describe her farm as practicing "vegan farming" or "Vegan organic gardening", so it has been removed by another user as WP:OR. Psychologist Guy (talk) 15:00, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This 1989 Vegetarian Times article reports: "Nearing refuses to fertilize her garden with any animal products - period."[1] This 2016 Portland Press Herald article reports: "In the 1977 documentary film “Living the Good Life,” Scott Nearing stands in the couple’s huge Maine garden and addresses a group of people interested in homesteading. He explains they use absolutely no “animal residues,” such as manure or bonemeal, in their gardens. “As vegetarians, we are against the slaughter business,” he tells the crowd, “and we don’t want to participate in it.”[2] This 2015 Bangor Daily News article reports: "According to Helen and Scott, “a good general rule for compost is: utilize any and all available organic materials.” If it grew, then it can decompose to make compost. Chief sources of compostable material that the Nearings used included: grass clippings, garden waste (weeds, leaves, etc), seaweed, and kitchen scraps. All of these items grew, extracting important plant nutrients. Composting them, rather than throwing them into the garbage, returns these nutrients to the soil in your garden."[3] BrikDuk (talk) 15:32, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Your right, in a sense they were practicing "vegan" gardening but sources do not use that terminology. The problem is that term "veganic organic" farming or gardening does not really exist until recently. The idea of "Vegan organic gardening" is not supported by many references, it's a fairly new term. Some vegan farmers do not identify as organic. We can improve Helen Nearing's article but the other is a mess. Psychologist Guy (talk) 15:59, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Wikipedia:WikiProject Veganism and Vegetarianism, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Mr.Sarcastic (talk) 16:16, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am active member of this WikiProject. All of the edits you reverted were contributions to ongoing article development and expansion. You are not listed as an active member. Therefore I reverted your deletions as the removals are destructive and appear as vandalism to ongoing project work. BrikDuk (talk) 16:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BrikDuk's edits were constructive to the project, they should not be removed. The only thing I would say is that we should not mention specific users we are having disagreements with on the WikiProject page. Just say "an editor" and link to the article if there are any disputes. Psychologist Guy (talk) 20:43, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Email

[edit]

Striking out previous vote

[edit]

BrikDuk, I see that you have changed your vote to agree with mine in Talk:China–Cornell–Oxford Project#Please merge this article. When you do that, it's best to strike out the previous vote so there is no confusion. The code:

  • <s>'''Merge'''</s>

gives

  • Merge.

RockMagnetist(talk) 21:22, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I did not know that was possible. BrikDuk (talk) 21:55, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder re ADVOCACY

[edit]

I have reverted your edit at Death of Regan Russell. Please read (or re-read) Wikipedia:Advocacy. Normal Op (talk) 15:24, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your commenting here. Encyclopedic information provides information NPOV with necessary context as needed for students and researchers who use such information resources. Adding the names of other animal activists killed while protesting as was Russell is not Wikipedia:Advocacy it is record of how some others view this death. This is as is done on multiple similar situations that are among those https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Tamir_Rice and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Eric_Garner. This is the context you reverted:Animal rights activists have compared Russell's death to the deaths of other activists who have been killed as they are protesting, who include Jill Phipps, Chico Mendes, Karel Van Noppen, Stuart Fairlie, Mike Hill, and Tom Warby. This is a statement of how some have categorized her death. It would be helpful for you to reread WP:Censor and rather than removing relevant information expand on this above with any such comparisons as have been made by other groups of people with different perspective or ideas. BrikDuk (talk) 20:10, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There was no reliable source; an advocacy website doesn't count. And I will be bringing up to the Wikipedia community the topic of animal rights advocates wallpapering every single animal article with animal rights links when it isn't warranted and is clearly UNDUE and ADVOCACY. Normal Op (talk) 20:34, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am regretting how much your ideological ideas that resents animal rights perspective influences your editing work. Your work to remove information and perspective is a form of WP:Censor which is regularly experienced by most all minority groups whose ideas are opposed by those in the mainstream ideological culture. BrikDuk (talk) 09:24, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
CENSOR does not apply. However, UNDUE and FRINGE does. Normal Op (talk) 15:15, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. It's one thing to be born into a minority (such as race or religion), it's quite another to join a socio-political movement or choose a viewpoint outside of mainstream. You cannot cry discrimination for being that sort of minority, and by using that excuse for your advocacy you denigrate anyone who truly is a member of such a marginalized minority. Normal Op (talk) 15:33, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's now apparent you have very many ideological opinions about vegetarian and animal rights persons which is understandable however you are letting this influence your editing by WP:Censor which puts into jeopardy your very claims of NPOV. BrikDuk (talk) 17:21, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is a discussion about Normal Op's behavior on the admin board [1] Psychologist Guy (talk) 16:01, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of vegans

[edit]

Hey BrikDuk, We're wondering for how long subjects of Wikipedia articles have to be vegan to make it to List of vegans. I currently think 6 months, but I'd like to get more input and thus firmer consensus. Please have your say at Talk:List_of_vegans#Coding rules if you have time :) Trimton (talk) 19:57, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this information about this discussion. I do not know what the correct amount of time should be to determine inclusion on the list and I see you have made a good judgement about this. BrikDuk (talk) 10:27, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
