Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Ferretly. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Social media analytics, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted.

This edit, specifically, has a link to site with the same name as your user name.

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Longhair\talk 22:44, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I was trying to add to the commercial section of article relevant to my company. I wasn't aware this would block my account. I would like to get this unblocked if possible, i have made several contributions already in the areas of theoretical math and fractals and intend to continue to contribute. I now understand where I went wrong.

Decline reason:

I'm declining this because it's been a couple of weeks and you haven't responded to 331dot's comments. If you wish to be unblocked in future, you will need to make a declaration to the effect that you will not edit about your company at all, including attempting to create an article about them. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Non-admin comment Editing about your own company indicates a conflict of interest you should read WP:COI to learn more, also, promotional edits are not allowed here, to be unblocked you need to show what other contributions you would make besides promoting your company/organisation otherwise your account is unlikely to be unblocked StarryNightSky11(talk)(cont) 01:29, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, i understand now that I can not add information about my company to an existing article. However, I would like to create an article about the history of my company which I assume is okay?{{subst:unsignedDJLIP66}}

Non-admin comment Editing about your own company includes creating articles about it and its history. Lavalizard101 (talk) 12:06, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So who exactly would create the page? they would need to get the information from me given I'm the founder.

A Wikipedia article (Not a mere "page") summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the subject, a company in this case, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. Wikipedia has no interest in what a company wants to say about itself. Not every company merits an article, it depends on the sources. If your company is not written about by independent reliable sources(which does not include press releases, announcements of routine business activities, or brief mentions), it would not merit an article at this time. You are free to tell about the history of your company on its own website or social media.
Articles are typically written by independent editors, who take note of a subject in independent reliable sources and choose on their own to write about it. This is almost always done without the involvement of the subject as the subject being involved would trigger the same policies that you got hung up on. If you are not prepared to agree to not edit about your company, I can close this request. 331dot (talk) 12:24, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
