Ibid

[edit]

Thank you for you edits to History of Glasgow, but please do not use Ibid in short citations as you did with

Ibid, p. 20.

Instead use

author year p. 20.

eg:

Meighan 2013, p. 20.

This is because future edits may move the sentences around, or new sentences with new citations may be inserted between the supporting citation and the ibid, and so the ibid can get easily separated from its parent. It is one of the quirks of working on a page that anyone can edit, and not everyone understands what ibid signifies!

There is a guideline on how to construct citations called Wikipedia:Citing sources (often shortened to WP:CITE). It is very long and difficult to take in all at one go, However there is a section in it that specifically mentions ibid (see WP:IBID). The other bit of that guideline that is useful for this specific problem is the section "Short citations"
