[edit]
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. COI editing and promotional editing

[edit]

Hi - I've blocked your account because you were inserting clearly promotional content into an article where you have an obvious conflict of interest, and because your username is not compliant with policy. I'm order to be unblocked, you will need to request a new username, and demonstrate that you have read and understood WP:COI, WP:PAID, and WP:NOTPROMO. Thank you GirthSummit (blether) 13:38, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I am an employee of the GW4 Alliance and we created the 'GW4 Alliance' account so that it would be easier for colleagues in future to edit content on the page. PLEASE NOTE: that there is no promotional content on the page, we are simply listing what the GW4 Alliance is for information purposes. Could you please restore the account and the content that was added to the page? If not could you please specify what I have done wrong and how I can fix this. I'm happy to work with you to resolve the situation but I first need to know what specific error I have made and how this is considered to be promotionalGW4 Alliance (talk) 09:49, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You have not proposed a new username as instructed. You also indicate that this is a group account; that is not permitted, as accounts are for individuals only. Regarding the block itself, please note that Wikipedia is not for merely providing information or other "informational purposes". That's considered promotional here. This is an encyclopedia, and as an encyclopedia Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about article subjects that meet Wikipedia's special definition of notability(in this case, the definition of a notable organization). Wikipedia is not interested in what an organization wants to say about itself. You also have a conflict of interest and are a paid editor. Please review all the policies I have linked to here, as you will have some required formal disclosures to make once unblocked. You won't be unblocked to continue to edit about your organization; if that's all you are here to do, this is the end of the line for your Wikipedia career, and you should consider alternative forums. If you want to be a general, individual Wikipedia contributor, you need to propose a new username as instructed, agree to not edit about your organization, and tell what subjects unrelated to your conflict of interest you will edit about instead. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 11:03, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hi - I will leave it for another administrator to review your unblock request, but I'll give you some advice. You appear not to have read through the links in the block notice above - if you had read our username policy, you would know that it expressly prohibits usernames that unambiguously represent an organisation (see ORGNAME), and accounts that are shared between different people (see ISU). If you had read our COI guidelines, and WP:PAID, you would know that you and your colleagues should not be editing the page about your organisation directly - you should be making edit requests on the article talk page. As for the promotional nature of the content you wanted to add to the page, it was full of phrases such as 'world-class scholarship', 'world class facilities', 'research excellence at scale' 'unique world class research facility'... I could go on and on. If you can't see that language like that is inappropriate for an encyclopedia, I don't think you should be editing here. This article is not an extension of your web presence, or a place for you to tell the world how brilliant you are. Our aim is to describe our subjects entirely neutrally, without appearing either to praise or criticise them. We aim to avoid telling our readers what organisations say about themselves; we summarise what independent, reliable sources say about them. I'd suggest you read the policies I've linked to above closely, and consider making another unblock request, requesting a new username that identifies you as an individual person, and also demonstrating that you understand how you need to edit in areas where you have a COI.
