Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction event. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 00:04, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to take part in a pilot study

Welcome to Wikipedia. I am a Wikipedian, who is studying the phenomenon on Wikipedia. I need your help to conduct my research on about understanding "Motivation of Wikipedia contributors." I would like to invite you to a short survey. Please give me your valuable time, which estimates only 5 minutes. cooldenny (talk) 21:30, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Wikilinking

I see you are adding links to many articles. You should read the guide to linking since it looks like you are adding links we would not normally use, such as linking Earth from Fresh water. Appropriate linking is one of the more difficult concepts to explain and understand, so don't feel picked upon. Thank you for your efforts! —EncMstr (talk) 02:21, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks!

I just wanted to say: Thank You for your attention to detail in the Gaia hypothesis article.  :) --Qgil (talk) 17:12, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you

I appreciate your astute corrections to the Forestry article (diff here). I looked back at the original blanking action by Anonymous that you say was unexplained. I think I know the reason after looking at the first of two edits by this vandal (diff here). His first replacement of content was with this sentence in poor English:

"Today i started a stupid english paper on a carear and my stupid teacher want let me plagerize."

The next edit was the blanking of the entire section. I think what happened is that some student, angry with his teacher for not letting him plagiarize the text from Wikipedia, decided to do so anyway, and then deleted the section in order to cover his tracks. At least you have to give him a star for ingenuity! Too bad for him that this trick does not get by the vigilant editors like yourself who are diligently watching for suspicious edits on Wikipedia. I guess this puts new meaning to the phrase, "memorize and destroy!" Let's hope other students in the same situation don't try this again. :-) It is not quite the use that was intended for Wikipedia. Thank goodness for the "History" pages, though. --Skol fir (talk) 23:34, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Wow! If you're right, I would definitely give him a star for ingenuity! But it could come back to haunt him now. Gob Lofa (talk) 23:38, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, plagiarism does come back to haunt many a politician or academic person, doesn't it? I can think of some recent examples, like the Dean of a University in this recent story from Alberta, Canada -- U. of Alberta dean faces plagiarism investigation. For the sake of the student who remains anonymous, I hope the essay was already marked. Otherwise, he may have to do the course again during the summer vacation. Serves him right! --Skol fir (talk) 23:46, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

May I suggest that it is about time you started being careful to avoid linking to disambiguation pages? Doing this a few times may be due to ignorance of how Wikpedia works, understandable occasional slips, or both. However, you have received 54 messages about this, over a period of nearly two years, so neither of those explanations can apply. JamesBWatson (talk) 18:44, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

"Better-looking" is a matter of opinion

With reference to your move of South-East Asian theatre of World War II see MOS:ENGVAR and MOS:COMPASS "Notice that compound compass points are usually concatenated in American English, for example northwest, while in British English they are sometimes written as separate words or hyphenated, as in north-west." -- PBS (talk) 01:19, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
