RFA2024 update: no longer accepting new proposals in phase I
[edit]Hey there! This is to let you know that phase I of the 2024 requests for adminship (RfA) review is now no longer accepting new proposals. Lots of proposals remain open for discussion, and the current round of review looks to be on a good track towards making significant progress towards improving RfA's structure and environment. I'd like to give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has given us their idea for change to make RfA better, and the same to everyone who has given the necessary feedback to improve those ideas. The following proposals remain open for discussion:
- Proposal 2, initiated by HouseBlaster, provides for the addition of a text box at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship reminding all editors of our policies and enforcement mechanisms around decorum.
- Proposals 3 and 3b, initiated by Barkeep49 and Usedtobecool, respectively, provide for trials of discussion-only periods at RfA. The first would add three extra discussion-only days to the beginning, while the second would convert the first two days to discussion-only.
- Proposal 5, initiated by SilkTork, provides for a trial of RfAs without threaded discussion in the voting sections.
- Proposals 6c and 6d, initiated by BilledMammal, provide for allowing users to be selected as provisional admins for a limited time through various concrete selection criteria and smaller-scale vetting.
- Proposal 7, initiated by Lee Vilenski, provides for the "General discussion" section being broken up with section headings.
- Proposal 9b, initiated by Reaper Eternal, provides for the requirement that allegations of policy violation be substantiated with appropriate links to where the alleged misconduct occured.
- Proposals 12c, 21, and 21b, initiated by City of Silver, Ritchie333, and HouseBlaster, respectively, provide for reducing the discretionary zone, which currently extends from 65% to 75%. The first would reduce it 65%–70%, the second would reduce it to 50%–66%, and the third would reduce it to 60%–70%.
- Proposal 13, initiated by Novem Lingaue, provides for periodic, privately balloted admin elections.
- Proposal 14, initiated by Kusma, provides for the creation of some minimum suffrage requirements to cast a vote.
- Proposals 16 and 16c, initiated by Thebiguglyalien and Soni, respectively, provide for community-based admin desysop procedures. 16 would desysop where consensus is established in favor at the administrators' noticeboard; 16c would allow a petition to force reconfirmation.
- Proposal 16e, initiated by BilledMammal, would extend the recall procedures of 16 to bureaucrats.
- Proposal 17, initiated by SchroCat, provides for "on-call" admins and 'crats to monitor RfAs for decorum.
- Proposal 18, initiated by theleekycauldron, provides for lowering the RfB target from 85% to 75%.
- Proposal 24, initiated by SportingFlyer, provides for a more robust alternate version of the optional candidate poll.
- Proposal 25, initiated by Femke, provides for the requirement that nominees be extended-confirmed in addition to their nominators.
- Proposal 27, initiated by WereSpielChequers, provides for the creation of a training course for admin hopefuls, as well as periodic retraining to keep admins from drifting out of sync with community norms.
- Proposal 28, initiated by HouseBlaster, tightens restrictions on multi-part questions.
To read proposals that were closed as unsuccessful, please see Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase I/Closed proposals. You are cordially invited once again to participate in the open discussions; when phase I ends, phase II will review the outcomes of trial proposals and refine the implementation details of other proposals. Another notification will be sent out when this phase begins, likely with the first successful close of a major proposal. Happy editing! theleekycauldron (talk • she/her), via:

I approved the DYK. Not directly related, but the article says: "After the reorganization, Jonet was named the team's secretary, a post he would remain in until 1951" However, the Packers.com source says: "He was elected to the executive committee and also treasurer on Jan. 29, 1935."[1] Not sure if the article needs changing, or the source is incorrect.—Bagumba (talk) 14:58, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Ethics Workshop Participation Request
[edit]Hi! We're conducting a series of participatory workshops with Wikipedia editors, administrators, researchers, and Wikimedia employees to discuss, and hopefully improve, Wikipedia's structures for online research (see meta research page). In an effort to get the right people in the room to discuss these topics, I'm reaching out here to see if you are interested in participating as an active administrator. We'd work with you to ensure this workshop can fit into your schedule, but are targeting end of April/early May. I'm happy to discuss any of these topics further here or on our talk page. Lions Pro Bowlers
[edit]Just wanted to let you know that I've been working on User:Hey man im josh/List of Detroit Lions Pro Bowl selections, based on your List of Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl selections. I'm expecting to wait at least a week, maybe two, and will be DYK nomming it when I do so. Trying to line it up so that I can get those DYK points in the third round of the WikiCup =P Hey man im josh (talk) 20:17, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh, looks awesome! Glad I started a trend. I am contemplating List of Green Bay Packers All-Rookie Team selections and List of Green Bay Packers All-Pro selections for some future day hahaha. I told BeanieFan11 this last year, if you work on any WP:PACKERS content, I'll offer up unlimited, time-efficient reviews! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:29, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- I seen that! I'm not sure how to feel because of the mess that is the various selectors (tho I'd end up settling on what the HoF uses). What do you think of the most Pro Bowls section I added? I found myself wondering who tops the list when I was looking at yours and ended up settling on a table for it like with the annual statistics lists.
- As for working on and promoting Packers content... I'll look it over, but as a self respecting Lions fan (we have those!?), I find it to be an impossible task. I justify reviewing as looking for ways to criticize Packers stuff! Hey man im josh (talk) 22:44, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh Haha I am contemplating adding the second table. Good info that isn't easily parsed from the main table.
- Just work on players who played for the Pack and Lions. Jamaal Williams, T. J. Lang, Tobin Rote, Jug Girard, Ron Kramer, the list is endless! Haha! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:03, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- No, I'm gonna Lions even harder now. God I love PFR, I had no idea that that that type of search existed. I'd definitely encourage you to add that summary table, but I'm a sucker for those. My threshold for inclusion was 5 Pro Bowlers with the team, which feel is a pretty good number for this. It would mean, if you were to implement one, that your table would have 14 entries in it. Earlier All-Star game?
[edit]Hey Gonzo. I've been doing some work to prove Dutch Clark was GM for 3 years and HC for 2 years (tough to find something stating he was GM in 1936), and I stumbled across a few things. I've found mentions of Detroit, champions for the 1935 season, playing an exhibition game against a set of All-Stars (see this section) on January 1, 1936. I found a few links from articles here: link 1, link 2, link 3 (page 16).
I did some Googling to try to find more to support this, but ultimately had to turn to Newspapers.com, where I clipped these:
Any thoughts on this? It looks like the "All-Star Game" may have started sooner than 1939. Hey man im josh (talk) 20:20, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Also noting that several Packers players appear to have played (including Don Hutson). Hey man im josh (talk) 20:22, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Damn, Dutch Clark apparently wrote a poem about the game! Hey man im josh (talk) 20:27, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh Chicago College All-Star Game started in 1934. Is that was this is referencing? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Never mind. I am at a loss. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:14, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- My guess is that these games weren't sancitoned? The HoF calls 1939 the first Pro Bowl. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- It's definitely confusing... there was a match vs college All-stars in September 1936, while sources distinctly state, and mentioned a number of, NFL players (including several Packers).
- I've actually corrected the HoF a scary number of times... they get things wrong way too often, to the point I'm not comfortable recommending them as a reliable source, but they're still right enough to be used as a reference (in my opinion). I'm not kidding when I say I'm averaging at least two submissions a month for corrections over the last 6-12 months.
- I wanted to dump that info on your talk page because I found a lot of it mid to late day today and may not get to it til Monday, figured if anybody else on Wiki digs into early NFL as much I do, it'd be you. I'm wondering if the 1939 Pro Bowl was the first sort of sponsored one? Based on some stuff I found searching for those sources, I believe the 1936 match against college All-stars was sponsored. But perhaps the pro one wasn't? I'm not sure... but there's definitely something to figure out I think. Hey man im josh (talk) 23:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Funny, it's already mentioned here 1935 Detroit Lions season#All-Star Game: Lions 33, NFL All-Stars 0. Not really finding much on the game except the AP and UPI reports. I'll keep digging. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:35, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- It feels like enough smoke and information to believe it was an all-star game. But that would also lead me to believe there should be a couple more between that and the first one we have listed. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:46, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

- Link 1 seems to establish the roster well enough. I sent an email to Cliff Christl to see if he can shed some light on pre-1939 All-Star Games. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:58, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hey Gonzo. One of my very first article creations back in the day was List of Detroit Lions in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which I've decided I want to work on and get up to featured list status. I'm using List of Green Bay Packers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an example to build off, and I was curious, did you add life-time All-Pro selections, or just selections while a player was with the team? My gut says to use the selections and awards received while with the team, as opposed to full career accomplishments. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:49, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh, full career. For me, it made sense because the HoF recognizes full career accomplishments, even if it does assign a primary team for the player. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 20:07, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah I'm leaning towards it as well at this point. Considering whether to include a column for career length to help differentiate when they were with the team, but not sure... it needs some thinking over from my PoV, but hey, at least I'm making progress on it :) Hey man im josh (talk) 20:16, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- All that said, I added a lot from when it went to FLC back in 2008 or so. So maybe a new discussion will provide clarity on what would be helpful for these types of lists. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:51, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

TFA
[edit]Thank you today for Bob Mann (American football), introduced (in 2020): "Bob Mann was an American football player in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He was a star end (wide receiver in today's terminology) for the University of Michigan, where he teamed up with future Hall of Famer Len Ford to form a dynamic pass-catching duo. He entered the NFL with the Detroit Lions, where he played for two seasons. After a salary dispute, he was released and signed with the New York Yanks (not to be confused with the baseball team), although he never played for the team in the regular season. After being released by the Yanks, he claimed NFL owners blackballed him by all agreeing to not sign him. After a few months, the Green Bay Packers signed Mann, where he would play parts of five seasons until a knee injury ended his career. Mann would go on to become a lawyer in the Detroit area until he died in 2006. The quick overview above would make it seem like Mann was just another college football star who played in the NFL for a few seasons before professional football became what it is today. However, Mann's legacy goes far and above his statistics and physical abilities. Mann was a black player in football during a time of great racial prejudices. He broke the color barrier for both the Lions and Packers, he was cut by the Lions for not taking a pay cut (and possibly for supporting a boycott by the black community of a beer that he was a spokesperson for), even though he led the NFL in receiving yards the prior season. He was (arguably) blackballed by the NFL for his race and for not agreeing to take the pay cut from the Lions. Then he played for Green Bay, a town at the time that had only a handful of black residents. He has been called a pioneer for the dignified way he handled himself is such difficult situations."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:26, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

List of Los Angeles Rams starting quarterbacks possible FL
[edit]Hi there,
I had just recently discovered that List of Green Bay Packers starting quarterbacks was promoted to featured list status just a few days ago. I would like to congratulate you for a job well done. I actually had an idea to do promote List of Los Angeles Rams starting quarterbacks to featured list status, but I wasn't sure how to format it so that it would become one. I looked at List of Los Angeles Chargers starting quarterbacks, but it was difficult to arrange the list season by season due to the Ram's lengthy team history and like the Packers, it is hard to find win-loss record by starting quarterback prior to 1950. So your list gives me a template to follow for a team like the Rams that have a long history.
I may try to promote the list sometime this year or next year. I'm still trying to get a few Oscar ceremony lists promoted. I will think about it heavily. Birdienest81talk 20:20, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Birdienest81, good luck! Yeah, I think this layout is better than the other two starting QB lists. Easier and more straightforward. Good luck! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:21, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Promotion of List of Green Bay Packers general managers
[edit]Draft navbox naming
[edit]Hey Gonzo. I was looking at the draft navboxes, specifically the naming scheme, and I noticed an inconsistency. Following your lead of moving the Green Bay Packers navboxes to the format of "Green Bay Packers YYYY NFL draft picks", I moved the Lions ones to "Detroit Lions YYYY NFL draft picks". I noticed today however that there seems to be a naming scheme that 6 other navboxes follow.
Looking at Category:National Football League 2023 draft navigational boxes, most of the titles are bunched up MascotYearDraftPicks, while six others leave out "NFL" from the title of the navbox. Examples:
- Arizona Cardinals 2023 draft navbox
- Atlanta Falcons 2023 draft navbox
- Indianapolis Colts 2023 draft navbox
- Los Angeles Chargers 2023 draft navbox
- Los Angeles Rams 2023 draft navbox
- Tennessee Titans 2023 draft navbox
Do you think we should have left "NFL" out of the titles when we made these moves? Hey man im josh (talk) 12:48, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh, where possible, I am trying to stay consistent with "NFL draft". My preference would be for them all to be named that way, and my hope was that I could possibly get that moving. I also want the naming convention for all the templates be standardized moving forward, so we don't keep having all the redirects in the MascotYearDraftPicks format. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:04, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Makes sense to me. I'll help chip away at them over time. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:31, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

My source for the number of rounds is confusing, it lists out 20 and 30, but does note the practice from 1938 to 1944 of skipping rounds 2 and 4. Weird. I like how everything is coming together with the Lions' picks. Ready to see them at FLC soon! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:19, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- I happened to notice something was wrong when doing the Lions list and did a bit of digging. Those notes in my sandbox are unofficial, but they do perfectly explain the approach that was taken. While not RS, I do like to use Pro Sports Transactions to compare against other sources sometimes, as they do actually document a fair bit that others don't. Problem is it's mostly maintained by one guy who's not classified as a subject matter expert. Never the less, still useful! I understand why they said it's 20 or 30 rounds, since each team would apparently have that many picks anyways, but practically speaking we now know that's not how it actually went. I was just thinking about how the NFL gives comp picks at the end of a round instead of having separate comp pick rounds between and after the last several rounds. Ahh, just depends on how they wanna say their rounds are done lol. But yeah, thank you about the Lions lists! Progress is being made, even if not super fast. I'll have one at least prepped and ready to go as my next FL after one of my current two (with enough supports already!) pass. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:24, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Supplemental picks
[edit]Hey Gonzo. I was working on the Lions draft articles using yours as the templates. I noticed that you listed in Green Bay Packers draft history and Green Bay Packers draft picks (1970–present) that the 1998 supplemental draft pick of Mike Wahle caused the loss of the team's second-round pick in 1998. I think you made a typo and should be noting the loss of the pick under the 1999 draft table. The picks from supplemental drafts are taken from the next draft, but I can absolutely see how this mistake was made considering GB had no second-round pick in the 1998 draft (traded pick #29 and #60 to the Dolphins for pick #19). This also means that your note on the main history page will need to be tweaked. Note this link from the PFHOF which recaps the 1999 draft. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:03, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh thanks for the catch. Let me know if my changes make sense. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:24, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Need an opinion
[edit]Hey Gonzo. I've been hung up on the full Detroit draft pick lists for a few days because I've been considering removing the red names from the lists altogether. I don't think there's a reasonable expectation for most of them to ever be created, especially when PFR doesn't even have profiles on a lot of them. I've been finding it tough with some names to properly disambiguate, since we often use birth years if players are from the same position and have the same name, but I can't even find the birth years in some cases, leading to difficulty in disambiguating. Then I'm like, is this really even worth red linking anything here? I think it also leads to situations where an article for the same name gets created, if the name either isn't disambiguated or is simply disambiguated with (American football), and it could lead to a lot of these tables pointing to the wrong players over time. Thoughts? Hey man im josh (talk) 11:58, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh I don't have any qualms with you not redlinking the entries. I think here it just comes down to personal preference. I like redlinks, others don't. One thing I did do was make sure that the redlinks in these articles matched up with the redlinks in the respective yearly draft templates, to help prevent articles not pointing to the right person.
- In other news, as I await the year and half it will take to get all my FLCs through the process, I started working on famous Green Bay Packers games. I had already done Instant Replay Game a while back, and just finished up 1940 NFL All-Star Game (January) and Snow Bowl (1985). Next stop is Miracle in Motown! :) « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 13:42, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

"We want the ball and we're going to score!"
[edit]The phrase is not the name of the game. If you can find a way to better way to rephrase it, then do so. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, I restored the original version as per WP:BRD. Happy to elaborate more tomorrow when I have a few minutes. That said, i feel like your issue is more about the name of the article. Maybe you would be interested in putting forward a WP:RM? I sympathize with you as it took me a while to figure out what the article should be named and how it should read per policy. I really dont want to fight over this and am happy to discuss further or have a larger WP discussion about it. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 04:37, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- The phrase is the proper name of the article, since that is what people remember (though there should not be quotes - see Category:Quotations and particularly Category:Quotations from sports). So really, this should be a quotation article, not a game one. And, as I have just noticed, A drive into deep left field by Castellanos uses pretty much the exact same phrasing as I did. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:30, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Clarityfiend, I am happy to move this to another venue, say WP:NFL to gather additional input or find some consensus. I appreciated you coming to my talk page after WP:BRD, but did not appreciate you reverting without even giving me an opportunity to respond. Typically, as the discussion occurs, the original version remains until we find some consensus.
- I appreciate your point about quotations. I will likely move the article to remove them whenever this is all said and done. That said, the game itself is notable because of what Hasselbeck said. The NFL ranked it as one of the greatest games in NFL history [2]. The other thought I had was to go with the standard naming for these games: 2004 NFC Wild Card playoff game (Seattle–Green Bay). But that isn't the WP:COMMONNAME for the game, the play, the statement, etc.
- Look, I really, really don't want to battle on this and am happy to get some consensus from other editors, likely at WP:NFL. Are you ok with stepping back for a second and moving the discussion there? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:55, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and moved it to WT:NFL. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:24, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Draft pick lists
[edit]Hey Gonzo, I just had a comment at one of my FLCs, and I noticed that I think you ran into the same issue I did... in Detroit Lions draft picks (1970–present), I currently have the {{main}} template below the images, because putting it above the images causes the images to start on a new line instead of the same one as the hatnote. Unfortunately, this is against MOS:SECTIONORDER, so I have to go through and fix it on my lists. Currently trying to figure out if there's a way for both to start on the same time, as this messed up the layout a bit if the images are bumped down on each occasion. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:40, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hey man im josh Can you point me to where MOS:SECTIONORDER says that this should happen? In that link, the hatnotes being discussed are those found prior to the article content (and thus the ones that show up at the top of the article's page). Placement of this template is important, because it would affect the placement of the text. I don't see this section commenting on in-the-body-of-the-article hatnotes, whose placement relative to images doesn't affect how the text is rendered (ie it does not cause a huge line break of white space or place the image above the hatnote)hat note. Granted I'm on my phone, so I may have missed something. Will be on PC in a little bit. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, sorry, I meant to subscribe to this section when I replied. I see you've replied at the FLC, which I appreciate. Truthfully, I was also confused, which is why I was more or less deferring and asking around about it. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:49, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

- Wide photo of the building or area with the Heritage Trail plaque as a small, yet not clearly distinguishable feature (worried about copyright infringement if the plaque is the primary feature of the photo)
- If it is not a building (like St. Norbert College), then just a wide shot of the area with the plaque again as an incidental feature

- Hi Rafiiphonesomething, everything that gets added to Wikipedia should be supported by an inline citation. See WP:VERIFY. I will be frank, I have never heard them call "Packs" before. Definitely "the Pack". So for something like that, you need to find a reputable source that backs up your claim that "Packs" is an actual nickname of the Packers. Bob Waterfield Win-Loss record and Rams Starting QB List
[edit]Hi there,
I am currently doing a rewrite of List of Los Angeles Rams starting quarterbacks so that I may nominate it for featured list status at least before September 2025. However, I have run into a problem. Bob Waterfield played with the Rams starting in 1945, but as you have mentioned in List of Green Bay Packers starting quarterbacks and I have found out myself while researching on Pro Football Reference, the NFL only started recording the win-loss records for the starting quarterback beginning in 1950. So how will Waterfield be listed on the table since his career with the Rams began five season prior to the league began keeping track of a starting quarterbacks win-loss record?
For the record, I am making changes over at User:Birdienest81/sandbox two, which will be transfered to the actual list when the rewrite is complete.
- --Birdienest81talk 21:20, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Birdienest81, nice work so far! I would probably use some sort of footnote that says Waterfield's win/loss record is only calculated after 1950, when this data was reliably recorded. If you look at PFR, that is how it is reflected in his stats table. Hope this helps! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:35, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Nothing has changed in the four years since this ANI thread. And I still can't believe they got template editor rights back nine months after the thread. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:02, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Eagles247 I am trying to maintain good faith, but their editing is pushing hard against that. I am not sure if you are referencing the WT:NFL post specifically, but this somewhat stemmed from Talk:We want the ball and we're going to score!#Team Logos, a simple content dispute where we disagree about logos/images in the infobox. However, after the discussion started on one, they then proceeded to go to all of my other GAs and make the same change to the logos. As part of that change, they also made their standard "spacing" edit to the infobox and change the team name links to the team season links. I didn't want to muddy the dispute with that as well, so I brought it up at WP:NFL. I honestly don't care that much about either issue, it was really the pointy and disruptive editing that frustrated me. Thanks for the background on the color dispute. I have had run-ins before with colors with them, but didn't realize it rose to such a level. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 19:26, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: I did not see either discussion originally, CAT simply popped up in my head for the first time in years and I wondered if they were still being a nuisance. A quick check at their most recent few edits confirmed as much, with another levelheaded admin completely flabbergasted by their behavior. Because most of their editing is so tedious and widespread, most users ignore them and they fly under the radar. I would not be opposed to a community ban discussion at this point considering how long this has been going on with not much signs of improvement. Eagles 24/7 (C) 19:52, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

NFL team season wiki-links
[edit]Please do not remove the season wiki-links in the info box for articles involving historical games for the Green Bay Packers. I'll concede & give you the option to put team wordmark logos in the infobox; just please don't remove the season wiki-links for each team in the infobox please. They have encyclopedic value. I don't wish to engage in an edit-war with you over it. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 20:47, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- Charlesaaronthompson, may I ask why you feel the need to change spacing in infoboxes in articles? This doesn't change the appearance of the infobox for readers and so generally comes down to personal preference for the editors who commonly edit those articles. I have withheld changing it back because it seems like a silly thing to edit war on, but to be frank it is quite annoying. You will note that I have all the articles (except Fail Mary) which you edited up at WP:GAN and am the most significant editor to each article. I will be frank that your drive-by editing of the articles to remove the space is annoying, unproductive and lacking in purpose. I am not going to go and add them back in right now, but when the GA reviews do occur and I have to make edits to the articles, I am adding them back. I would prefer you leave them alone, unless I am missing some obscure policy.
- I don't plan on changing any of the team season links without gaining consensus first, although I don't see that format being supported by policy/guidelines.
- I would encourage you to approach the talk page more, especially after another editor has brought up a concern or issue to you. A content dispute is just that, with both sides having the right to be equally heard and whose opinions are generally both respected. You believing something should be one way doesn't make it right, nor does it supersede my belief it should be another way. If you believe strongly enough in your opinion, then discuss it. You boldly made a change, I reverted it, and then the impetus is on you to reach out and gain consensus. Your editing in the matter has been borderline disruptive, and if not that, at the very least frustrating (especially for an editor of your tenure). I wish you the best of luck editing. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 21:23, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: I change the spacing in the infobox because I feel like it makes sense visually when I edit to align the wiki-code formatting in each field of the infobox. I don't like wasted white space. Also, it makes sense to me when I edit in the infobox & one of the fields says "| name =". Makes it so much easier to track editing in the infobox when there's no wasted screen space. I will admit that readers cannot see what the infobox looks like unless they become editors. Can I ask why you feel the pressing need to insert team logos vertically stacked on top of each other in notable game articles? That doesn't make much sense to me at all. If you plan on using team wordmark logos, then at least they should be aligned so they are visually stacked horizontally against each other. I also do not know why you oppose using stadium images instead of team logos in the infobox of National Football League (NFL) notable game articles. Just my two cents. Anyways, I just don't want to engage in WP:EDITWARs with you constantly. I feel it's counter-productive for both of us. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 01:18, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Charlesaaronthompson, I am not asking why you like there being different spacing. I understand your editing preferences are different than others. I am asking why you feel the need to make those changes on pages you aren't actively editing, especially when dealing with 6 articles all written primarily by one author, who has them all up at WP:GAN right now and obviously prefers it a different way. It just seems inflammatory, especially considering it doesn't change how things are visualized by readers. Like if you are just going around Wikignoming small edits, why take the time to make a change like that? How does it help you if you likely aren't going to be editing that infobox much? I will also note that the template documentation for most of these templates include spacing in the template's documentation, i.e. {{Infobox American football game}}.
- Why the logos? Well I think we both agree that some visual in the infobox is better than none. So it comes down to personal preference on what goes there. Now if there is an image from the game, basically any image from the game, then that would definitely take precedence. As an example, I took this photo: File:NFL Wild Card Game Packers at Cardinals.JPG. If this game had its own article, then this would be a great choice for the infobox. But if there isn't, then it comes down to fair use images, pictures of stadiums, pictures of players, etc. Imho, these are better served in the body of the text, connected to something in the text. Regarding orientation of the wordmarks, next to each other makes them barely legible, especially on mobile. When they are stacked, they can be easily read and seen. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:33, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Gonzo fan2007: Yet, if I try to add a photo that is relevant to the game in question (like what I tried to do with The Catch II), then you question it and start a discussion over whether it should be deleted. In essence, it's like you're trying to discourage me from adding relevant photos to Wikipedia to improve the infobox image. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 00:55, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Charlesaaronthompson, if I come across an image that meets our deletion policy, than I am going to nominate it for deletion. You are bound, just like me, to Wikipedia's image policy, regardless of any ancillary disputes. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:53, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Promotion of List of Green Bay Packers NFL All-Decade Team selections
[edit]Hi Gonzo fan2007. Do you think that my article on climbing grades could be a FL candidate (in the same manner as rock climbing equipment)? any guidance appreciated ! Aszx5000 (talk) 11:52, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Aszx5000, I think based on how the article is written, most people would probably push you towards WP:GAN instead of WP:FLC. If you split out the tables under the "Comparison tables" section and created a separate List of climbing grades article, that would probably be good to go. Amazing work on all the climbing articles! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:11, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- Understand and that makes sense now. Many thanks for the feedback and encouragement. I am slowly working my way up through climbing to get to the "head articles" but want to get the lower-level ones sorted first. Definitely plan to get IFSC Climbing World Cup and IFSC Climbing World Championships to FL status when I finish :) thanks again. Aszx5000 (talk) 15:18, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Re [3], the source does not say it appeared to be an interception, rather that it appeared to be an incomplete ("... the tip of the football appeared to hit the ground in the process"). Flipping these results gives the entirely wrong impression. DatGuyTalkContribs 15:07, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- The source quote:
Two plays later, Rice caught a 6-yard crossing route – his only catch of the game – and lost the football as his knee touched the ground. The referee immediately ruled Rice down while the Packers defense clamored for a fumble. Just three snaps after that, the penultimate play of the game, Young nearly threw an interception looking for Stokes towards the right sideline. Packers corner Craig Newsome secured the football with his left arm but the tip of the football appeared to hit the ground in the process. The referee, once again, ruled the bang-bang play in the 49ers favor and called it an incomplete pass.
- vs
- The article text:
Shortly after the missed fumble, the referees also called a pass as incomplete that appeared to be a Packers' interception, a play which would have also effectively ended the game.
- DatGuy, what part are you isn't giving the right impression? The article says the play happened after the controversial call of no fumble by the refs. It then says that "Young nearly threw an interception" and explains that it would have been an interception if the refs hadn't made another controversial call of incomplete because they ruled the tip of the ball hit the ground. The text " the referees also called a pass as incomplete that appeared to be a Packers' interception" is an accurate summary of that text. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:51, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- My gripe is with the placement of the text and the usage of "appear". First, describing a correct decision inside a section wholly dedicated to an incorrect decision conflates the two. Second, "appear" does not intrinsically indicate something to be false, there should be surrounding clauses for it, e.g. while X appeared to occur, in reality Y; at first it appeared X, but later it turned out that Y; etc. The source saying one thing appeared to happen and the paraphrasing saying the opposite appeared to happen should raise a red flag.
