Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company, organization, or clients. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I created the International Vaccine Access Center(IVAC) Wikipedia page for purely informational purposes to increase awareness about pneumonia, other infectious diseases, and vaccines that exist for these diseases in the developing world. IVAC is a non-profit center within the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the most prestigious school in Public Health in the country and the best authority on the issues that I intended to provide information on through this page. I understand that my page was blocked because my username made it sound as if I was promoting this organization and writing this page as an organization and not an individual. However, my intention in creating this article was not to promote IVAC in any way but instead to provide the general public with up-to-date information regarding pneumonia as well as other important public health issues revolving around vaccines and other infectious diseases on which IVAC is a well-established authority. If the page is unblocked, I will only provide informational data that is intended to teach the public about important public health issues related to infectious diseases and the information that IVAC can provide as an expert on the subject and as a center affiliated with the most knowledgeable and expert public health academic institution in the world.

Decline reason:

I have no reason to doubt your good faith in what you say. However, Wikipedia does not exist to provide a medium for an organisation to publicise its work or the issues on which it is working. You say that you wish "to teach the public about important public health issues", but teaching the general public is not part of Wikipedia's remit. Wikipedia limits itself to neutral reporting of what is already established in numerous reliable sources, and has a policy of not publishing new material, as well as not serving as a medium to promote or promulgate information on behalf of an organisation. The pages you created were, in my assessment, promoting the work of the organisation. From what you have written you seem to think that promoting what you regard as a good cause does not count as promotion, but it does. You may possibly find it of interest to read Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. JamesBWatson (talk) 20:12, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
