Recent edits to Mount Aniakchak
Hi, I would like to notify you that your expansion of Mount Aniakchak was recently undone by another editor, if you aren't aware about it yet. Apparently consensus from a discussion is needed before one can improve/expand an article which is plain absurd.
I'll probably work on bringing back some content from old revisons back so he doesn't make noise. The two sections that are misssing from the current revisions are Human history and Surprise Lake which I'll see if I can add on, though I haven't research deep enough to see if they're even worthy of mention. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 00:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Upon reading the article, both topics are already inside the article, seems like nothing important in the old revision is missing. So now I don't even know what's with Dicklyon's "throw out an article and replace it with a new one" Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 00:17, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Dora says I was "straight up disruptive", but I think my edit was in line with WP:BRD; I reverted your bold edits as questionable, so we should discuss. I know what expansion is, and that's not what this looked like. It looked like you threw out what was there, replaced it with a new stub, and then started expanding that. Maybe I missed some plan that led to that approach. Let me know what's going on. Dicklyon (talk) 00:26, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Actually the history seems confused. What looks like your first edit there replaced about 16 kB with about 2.5 kB but is listed as +2.5 kB. What am I missing? Dicklyon (talk) 00:30, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, I see that revision, Dicklyon, you have a point. I'd question Eumerus's edit on that as well. But I don't believe restoring pre-Eumerus expansion would be an improvement of the article? Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 00:35, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
Ah, some page deletion and undeletion also went on. Mysterious (to me). I won't bother you more about this, but it would do me good to understand what the process is here, in case I see something like this again. Dicklyon (talk) 00:34, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks for clarifying. The "starting draft" edit summary was also vague of a reason for the major changes. I would've understood if that rang a bell Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 00:38, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Dicklyon and Dora the Axe-plorer: Sorry for not being clear with the edit reasons - what I did was to write up a new text in my userspace, then copy it over the main article. The delete and undelete was to merge the history of the userspace sandbox over - sometimes I need to check when I added a certain citation or sentence, and for that I need the history of the userspace page. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 06:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- That sounds like you did exactly what I objected to. You totally threw out an article and recreated it from scratch. I think that's seldom OK, certainly not without discussion. Dicklyon (talk) 06:11, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- It is generally OK to rewrite an article as part of an expansion, so as long as a) you aren't overriding some established content preference or b) arbitrarily delete content or c) violating some other policy. As I can see, this version has very little information not in the expanded one, and that information is either unsourced or can/will be readded later. I see no evidence of a pre-existing consensus for this version anywhere nor any other way it is better. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 06:23, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

Promotion of Guallatiri
Hello, I think the admin-edit protection is not necessary since the disruption was limited to autoconfirmed users. The protection levels should be lowered to ExtendedConfirmed levels. Other headers in high-visibility noticeboards do fine with just ExtCon.
I intend to make edits to shorten the amount of text. Thanks, Ca talk to me! 13:29, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Greetings, the template is currently template-editor protected, not full. I am tepid at applying ECP to anything b/c I think this setting is overapplied, but it's mostly a philosophical thing. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 14:33, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Since we aim
to have as many of its pages as possible open for public editing
, I think the protection level should be decreased unless there are disruption at lower levels. I think it is unlikely that Extended Confirmed editors would disrupt the header, and constructive editors may wish to make changes. Ca talk to me! 14:41, 17 January 2024 (UTC)- On the other hand, Wikipedia:Protection policy#Other cases (pertains to ECP) has

Re: CITEVAR
I've noticed a number of editors, often coders, preferring the style you use.[1] Do you personally prefer it because it keeps the content area clean and tidy, or is there another reason? Just wondering if I should start using this style. Viriditas (talk) 19:15, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Two reasons. One, it doesn't mix the references and article text. Two, it displays the page numbers in an useful fashion. The drawback is that it even experienced editors often have problems adding content to articles in this style, which is why you often see ref additions like the ones to K2-18b. Hi, Noted your talk reversion which is fine by me. Just a note that in preparing a better geologically relevant map I have identified a few further minor coordinate and name changes/alternatives in Marine Gazetteer and should complete this update within a day. ChaseKiwi (talk) 11:13, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Would you mind restoring this to my userspace? I'm going to be looking at B5 franchise content that has been lost through imprecise cleanup of multiple articles, and getting the original revisions of this back would help. Alternatively, just undeleting the previous versions under the current redirect would be fine--I don't anticipate bringing the index article back in any form. Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 05:45, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Looks like all of the content, save for some minor format and order changes, is at [2]. The only text added later is
Novels
Dark Genesis – The Birth of the Psi Corps -
Deadly Relations – Bester Ascendant -
Final Reckoning – The Fate of Bester -
Legions of Fire – Armies of Light and Dark -
Legions of Fire – The Long Night of Centauri Prime -
Legions of Fire – Out of the Darkness -
The Passing of the Techno-Mages – Summoning Light -
To Dream in the City of Sorrows -
which was added by Morriswa. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:09, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- Well... that's better than nothing, and thank you for that. If possible, I'd rather work in past revisions than archive.org, which is painfully slow. Are you opposed to putting the content back under the redirect? I'd be happy to have it back with the redirect fully protected if that would reassure you that neither I nor any rogue members of the B5 task force are going to do anything untoward to the redirect.
