The plan is to bring all of the Penwith articles up to a decent standard, a maybe get some feature quality article too in time, asat the moment its a bit of a wikipedia backwater! Unfree images

[edit]

Thanks for listing the images from flickr at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images. A couple of tips though... Firstly, don't remove the license tag that has been applied by the uploader when you add the {{PUIdisputed}} tag as this needs to stay in place while the investigation into its copyright status takes place. Secondly, where there is clear evidence that the license given conflicts with the original source information, you may which to just tag with {{db-copyvio}}, as the image can just be speedily deleted. Best wishes. Madmedea 19:07, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

UK and EU trademark applications

[edit]

You removed mention of UK trademark application by Apple for the iPhone because "the uk is in the european union". The UK is indeed in the EU. However, trademark applications are often made in both the UK and the EU because of some key differences in the two laws, as was the case for the iPhone. Please read here [[1]] for more detail. I have reverted your change. --AJKGordon 08:16, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I was just interested in that pic you added to the Cornish language article. I'm curious because the gloss of the English warning reads perfectly...but it's in Welsh! Now, I don't speak Cornish, and I know the two languages are related, but I'm pretty sure there's some kind of mix-up here. Any thoughts? :) Rob Lindsey (talk) 22:38, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

St Mabyn

[edit]

Why did you delete the link to Triggshire from the St Mabyn village article? You gave no edit summary. Teapotgeorge (talk) 13:49, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Including the Hundreds of Cornwall within the lead section isn't really informative and provides unnecessary information. The hundreds don't exist anymore and if it were not for being a Wikipedia contributor I wouldn't have any clue they ever existed at all, despite living in Cornwall all my life. I feel they would be more suited to the History section, not the lead. Take a look at Wikipedia:Lead_section and Wikipedia:UKCITIES#Lead.2A. --Joowwww (talk) 14:15, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I understand...I will add it to the history section at some point because if nothing links to the Triggshire page... it becomes an orphaned article!Teapotgeorge (talk) 14:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you have edited the main Beijing page recently and therefor might be interested. If you are, please sign: User:Poeloq/WikiProject_Beijing. International Tibet Independence Movement

[edit]

In the article International Tibet Independence Movement you added a referenced statement about Dalai Lama not wanting independence. I cannot find that statement in the reference. Can you check it again? Ansiwen (talk) 17:18, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's located about half way down the article: "He reaffirmed that he wanted autonomy for Tibet within China, but not outright independence." This isn't the only reference for his statement, there are countless other news articles which he has been quoted as saying that in. --Joowwww (talk) 17:21, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't blame me for breaking the infobox code and revert the attempts to fix it. It's broken by something external to the article and I'm trying to fix it. Every version in the history shows the same formatting problem as well. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

I apologise, I was trying to fix it and just realised it wasn't your fault :-) --Joowwww (talk) 13:52, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently it's on infobox country, it affects everything that uses it. I reverted the template backwards a month and it didn't seem to fix it. Unless the revert to the template didn't hit the cache while updating the display. Other than reverting their history, I'm not going near that code mess of a template. We'll just have to wait. Would you like me to upload a separate copy of the image specifically for the Main Page, so you can continue updating, or do you not foresee the need for an update in the near term? Thanks for the great image, BanyanTree 12:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can update the image as soon as it requested, I was mainly thinking about any updates/changes of the maximum extent that it was felt. There haven't been any issues raised with it so far, so I can't see it needing updating constantly in the short term. --Joowwww (talk) 15:43, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sichuan earthquake map

I just wanted to say thank you for the map showing the epicentre of the Sichuan earthquake. It's excellent, very clear and simple, gives exactly the information I wanted. Thanks! GyroMagician (talk) 16:53, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion - I think the map would be improved by adding a small "region key" box to show where whis area is, in rlation to China. For an example of what I mean, see bbc news. --  Chzz  ►  18:08, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

China map color

[edit]

Hello, Joowwww. I saw your new map and the colors are too similar to distinguish the disputed areas and the mainland of China, so I changed the main blank map and color index. Well, you may also revert my edit if the color is unsatisfied. I just want to help, but after the map were uploaded, I realized that related maps should be applied with the changed color. Well, I expect your response. Thanks.--Appletrees (talk) 20:19, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thanks for the feedback. This was discussed before, and I actually changed the colour of the surrounding areas before after someone else commented on it. You can see the discussion of the map at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_China#Maps_proposal. I can understand your changes but I felt they were a little too vibrant, and one of the problems I had with the previous map was that the focus wasn't on which province was being highlighted, but it was focused on the disputed areas, which isn't the primary purpose of the maps. I've reverted your edit as I'd like to keep the colours harmonious but I'm sure we can reach a compromise with a change of colours with some discussion. :-) --Joowwww (talk) 20:28, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: Also, the colours are of an equivalent shade as the Featured map Image:India-locator-map-blank.svg --Joowwww (talk) 20:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Relied at the project page, and India map does only shows a little part of the neighboring countries. Besides, the abbreviation as PRC is also not advisable to be spelled for common readers.--Appletrees (talk) 20:43, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV

[edit]

I think you have a wrong impression of me. Your first impression came from the dust up a Template:Asia topic which was a bit unusual. I've dealt with the NPOV issue between Taiwan and China quite a few times and have almost always been able to work with others civilly. Template:Asia topic was one of the few times I've run into an article that was both so heavily biased in one direction and so stubbornly defended by multiple people showing the same bias. It has usually been a simple matter to reach a somewhat neutral compromise.

And I do mean "compromise" because few people ever agree on what the correct NPOV is. Everyone has biases and they show through. I've pretty much given up on working for NPOV because there are always too many people who stubbornly insist that we push a POV that Taiwan is forever an inalienable province of China. So I've learned to compromise with them. Rarely have I run into the kind of stubborn insistence on maintaining a clear POV push as what I encountered at Template:Asia topic.

I'm trying to get calmed down in that discussion. Readin (talk) 15:26, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

I don't object to moving a section to a new article, but it was only after you made the move that I found your Talk page discussion asking for objections. Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 01:24, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Joowwww. I have a problem to ask for your help. After I moved Guomao Station to Guomao Station (Beijing), I found that I cannot fix the Template:S-line in its previous and next stations such as Yong'anli Station because Template:BJS stations automatically adds "Station" to the station's name. Of course we can move Guomao Station (Beijing) back to Guomao Station to fix it. But, we still cannot solve this problem for Shenzhen Metro stations such as Guomao Station (Shenzhen) if we will also apply Template:S-line to them. Is there a possible solution? Or do we have to change Beijing Subway stations' naming style from "XXX Station" to "XXX (Beijing Subway)", just like Shanghai Metro stations (e.g., Fujin Road (Shanghai Metro))? It will be great if you can help. Thanks.--Neo-Jay (talk) 00:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Neo-Jay, Template:BJS stations tells the succession boxes how to make station wikilinks, unless there is an exception. I've added the exception | Guomao=[[Guomao Station (Beijing)|Guomao]] to that template which will correct all Beijing Guomao links. That method can be done on Shenzhen succession boxes too, and also if any station articles need to be renamed in the future. Regards, --Joowwww (talk) 10:51, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Cornwall

[edit]

Very nice work! Thanks :) DuncanHill (talk) 10:29, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Duncan, it's not finished yet, each random section could do with at least 10 selections each and there's a selected quote section at Portal:Cornwall/Selected quote where I'm stuggling to find some Cornwall-related quotes, so if you know any it would be a big help! I'm sure Richard Carew or Celia Fiennes will have something - I'll ponder on it and add some when I find them DuncanHill (talk) 13:11, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed this image from the article again. It is important to understand the applicability of WP:NFCC #8 here. The image as shown conveys nothing that is of import to the article. It's illustrative, but nothing more. There's nothing significant about this particular image that is of significant relevance to the article. Conversely, a screenshot showing something of high significance to the game play of the article might be acceptable. For example, if there was a passage in the article talking about the difficulties of the Fort Schmerzen levels and noting the reduction in field of view provided by the gas mask the player's character must wear, then a screenshot might be useful for helping to convey that. However, in this case the image conveys nothing of significance. ANY image from the Omaha Beach scenario would serve the same purpose...i.e. there's nothing significant about *this* screenshot that sets it apart. Thus, the image is purely illustrative and not necessary to the article. Please do not re-instate the image without deep consideration of these factors and significant, strong re-wording of the rationale. I would caution you that there really is no sufficient rationale because there is nothing of significance in this image. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:13, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As you're probably already aware, Cornwall is now a unitary authority and this map is therefore outdated. Just thought I should let you know. Jolly Ω Janner 23:12, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've uploaded a new map. --Joowwww (talk) 11:07, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
