Arrgh and help
Hey Rafiki, the darn International Museum of the Horse at Kentucky Horse park changed around all the URLs on its web site AGAIN (I think it's twice this year so far, grrr.) So anyway, if you hit a dead link to IMH (imh.org) you would be a really good guy at WPEQ if you'd try to update to the correct current link. The index to all their breed articles is here. We have IMH links in many of the breed articles and if you could tweak those, it's an easy one we wouldn't have to... Thanks muchly in advance. Montanabw(talk) 00:04, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sure. I'll take a note of that link and bookmark it and try pasting it into anything coming up dead. :) RafikiSykes (talk) 02:55, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Categories
Please be aware that the LGBT issues WikiProject has long had very specific rules and guidelines about which types of categorization are useful and helpful and desirable for LGBT people and which are not. It's acceptable to create umbrella "LGBT people" categories for individual countries, and for certain very large occupational subcategories it's acceptable to subdivide "LGBT writers" or "LGBT musicians" into individual subcategories for each individual letter of the tree — but it is not useful, helpful, desirable or warranted to intersect those two schemes by creating individual letter-by-nationality subcategories for "Gay people from the United States" or "British lesbians". Please don't continue with this any further. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 15:20, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Continued disruptive category creation
Your interest in Scottish islands is very welcome, but your continued creation of inappropriate categories is becoming disruptive. Please stop this until you have better understood how categorisation is supposed to work. Ben MacDui 13:05, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- You now seem to be edit-warring, over these issues. If you are not prepared to discuss the changes you are proposing, please cease these activities or you may face a block for disruptive beahaviour. Ben MacDui 13:19, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there I had placed the 2 articles in both until decisions were made. Disambiguation is same commonly agreed on type as with Category:Isle of Bute and Category:Isle of Mull .RafikiSykes (talk) 13:29, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- See comment at CFD. I notice you have also just created Category:People from the Slate Islands, plus two sub-categories, with a grand total of 2 articles in the three categories. This is not what categorisation is for. Also, you are removing Category:Islands of the Inner Hebrides from the Slate islands - why? You moved Lunga, Firth of Lorn without any discussion and, as far as I can see no attempt to change the numerous links to the redirect, Again, why? It's not as if the change itself is contentious but a more collegiate approach and attention to the consequences of your actions would be much appreciated. Ben MacDui 13:42, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

- Category:Islands of the Inner Hebrides was not needed due to them being in the island grouping subcats. Lunga, Firth of Lorn was moved to match in with the disambiguation used on its companion islands.RafikiSykes (talk) 14:32, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- OK I see why the Category:Islands of the Inner Hebrides might be considered redundant, but moving Lismore to Isle of Lismore without any discussion is not at all helpful. See WP:PLACE. Ben MacDui 14:29, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
- Broadband here is terrible and I am more used to spending half an hour on a single edit than dashing hither and thither and I am finding it hard to keep up with you. I was not intending that Cat:People from the Slate Islands would vanish, but so be it. I might resurrect it at some point although there are possibly complex rules about that. I was intending to get Lismore to GA next month, which is why I created the original cat, but that is clearly on hold for now. Ben MacDui 15:08, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

User plainsense
Hi RafikiSykes, I notice that you added an advisory notice to the Talk page about Christine Burns noting a possible connection to the user plainsense. This is quite correct, as I had already made clear on the User and Talk pages for plainsense. For the avoidance of any doubt I have therefore added a declaration to the Talk page for the biographical entry making clear the connection and stating my awareness of the policy implications. I notice, for instance, that you have found some broken links on the page. I am happy to assist you or other editors to repair those links if that would be helpful. Plainsense (talk) 18:31, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- That all seems fine :) User:Jokestress is Andrea_James so has similar issues and how she helps out with her biography seems quite a good idea.. What she does is to use a draft of the biographical article in her userspace User:Jokestress/Biography to show changes or suggestions for the main article on her and posts suggestions on the talk page of the main biography so as to not edit the article about herself directly.RafikiSykes (talk) 18:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- PS I think it is great you have joined wiki, you have so much to offer. :) RafikiSykes (talk) 18:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Hi, yes, I know about Jokestress. She was the original author of the Wiki profile about myself!
On a separate note, I see you have reconstituted a page for Press for Change. You may be aware that there used to be a stub entry but that was deleted some time ago as nobody had ever updated it. I was interested in revamping it and, in preparation for that, I had already written a suggested article covering the past and present. I felt that I needed to help with this as people seem to have a lot of difficulty understanding how the history fitted together. I've pasted the material into the Talk page for the entry in the hope that you or others will consider how to use the material to best effect ... at least to bootstrap a decent article. I hope that's helpful.
Kindest regards Christine Burns\ Plainsense (talk) 19:42, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there I had recreated the press for change page after noticing it as a red link in your article. I checked out the old version on web caches eg http://web.archive.org/web/20100526164705/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Press_for_Change and saw that it had been deleted largely due to having no sources to show notability/no secondary sources. I just started a stub for now but with enough secondary sources to prevent it from getting deleted in the same way. Any help on expanding it and particuarly press coverage/articles would be great.RafikiSykes (talk) 20:41, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Hi again ... as I say, I hope the copy (with the accompanying 60 references that supports it) will be helpful. I left PFC in November 2007 and I was sad to see what happened to the web site after that, so I have tried to encourage interest in people recovering the history of the campaign (especially between 1995 and 2005) whilst it is still relatively easy to do so.
I am talking to museums about preserving some of the physical assets and it was because I had blogged about the issue that the British Library approached me and pointed out what they had archived. Please see my Blog here for more background: [1] and here [2] ..plus you'll find references to specific events peppered around the Blog. However, I'm aware of the sensitivity of dealing with content in WikiPedia, so the most I want to do is to try and encourage the interest among independent editors and be your guide.
The other issue for this and other topics around documenting trans history in Britain with WikiPedia is that the usual 'reliable sources' are not very reliable. For instance, in 20 years of campaigning I have never been profiled by a mainstream publication, apart from the traditional trivia. The reason I started the PFC web site and Claire came in to build it up was precisely because the media failed us and had only one narrative line they were interested in. I suspect some WikiPedians might have difficulty getting their heads around the reality of that much erasure. Again, I've written about it here [3].
I do hope that LGBT archivists and editors will take an interest therefore. I have an encyclopaedic memory of where to find material to help you, but I don't want to earn a negative reputation on this medium by being too forward.

LGBT History Timeline resource by NHS North West
Please note this Timeline resource which was published by myself and colleagues at NHS North West in February 2011 for LGBT History Month. The LGB content was researched for us by the Lesbian and Gay Foundation and the Trans content by the Trans Resource and Education Centre.
I'm mentioning this because I note that the preceding section mentions two pages on LGBT History which need merging and I think that the fresher content which we commissioned might assist in improving the comprehensiveness.
Full declaration: I was involved in the commissioning of that timeline in one of my consultancy roles as Programme Manager for Equality and Diversity at NHS North West. I am also a patron of LGBT History Month UK.
I hope that is helpful to you and other editors working on LGBT History

New Kilpatrick
Hi Rafiki - The categories in East Dunbartonshire were in a mess, well done for trying to sort them. However, I believe you need to have a rethink about New Kilpatrick - I think it would be better as it's own (slightly archaic) category as a civil parish, then Bearsden, Milngavie et al can sit in there as well as in their own categories. It's not correct to put a larger box inside a smaller one unless you're a magician! I'll leave the mechanics up to you ;-) Wikiwayman (talk) 08:28, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

- I would say you can easily move it over as you have enough solid sources and references to show it is all sourced and that the house is notable. It might be mentioned in a refernce book I have so i will check that out later and see if I can find anything to add.RafikiSykes (talk) 21:28, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'll add a little for now just to link to the listing explantion if thats ok.RafikiSykes (talk) 21:31, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- Might be worth adding an infobox of some type? Something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_historic_site maybe.RafikiSykes (talk) 21:41, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

- Many thanks, will do as you say. The most glaring omission is any image of the interior, but so far all I've seen are the listed building photos. If you know anyone with a camera in Dunfermline... Chiswick Chap (talk) 05:03, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Category:Villages in Skye
I have removed your nomination of Category:Villages in Skye at the speedy renaming page because it was opposed and remained so without change for more than two weeks. If, after reviewing the opposing arguments, you still believe that the category should be renamed, you are welcome to initiate a full nomination. Cheers! -- Black Falcon (talk) 19:59, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Matt Lucas
Hi, I notice you reverted IP editors a few times on Matt Lucas after they removed content about Kevin McGee's death. Today I was contacted by one of the IPs, who claims to be Matt Lucas and requested that the sentence be removed. I started a discussion at Talk:Matt Lucas#Former_partner and would appreciate it if you could have a look. Thanks. Mahahahaneapneap (talk) 19:43, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
