RE: EDITWAR (your note on the TeaHouse )

I saw your note on the Teahouse. I looked at the page itself, and it doesn't appear that you're edit-warring, nor does it look like you're linkspamming. However, it does appear that you're attempting to link Glucocorticoid to one particular drug. That particular drug is a type of Glucocorticoid, but it is not the only Glucocorticoid. It would be akin to my editing the article on non-sugar sweeteners to contain only "Saccharine". Saccharine is definitely a non-sugar sweetener, but it's not the only one. Do you follow ? I agree with what KoshVorlon has written above. Technically the link to mometasone furoate is not link spam but when combined with a link to Glenmark Pharmaceuticals it is very close to link spam. Furthermore per WP:WINARS, Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source. Hence citing a Wikipedia article as a source as you did in this edit is not appropriate. Hiya Guys, and thank you for your constructive comments. My original edit was based on two criteria. Firstly corticosteroid is more informative than Steroid hormone, indicating that Glucocorticoid is secreted by the adrenal cortex. The second criteria (now negated by the addition of Boghog's "better" reference) was that a referenced fact is better than an unreferenced fact. The source was the Package leaflet from a tube of Mometasone Furoate that I have. Glenfield are the manufacturer and hence the publisher for this source. Myasthenia & polymyositis

I am unsure why you added a newspaper article from 40 years ago to myasthenia gravis and polymyositis. I don't think a single event from 40 years ago is relevant, but please let me know if this was a particularly illustrative case that had a long-term impact on the public perception of either or both disorders. The article from the Observer is from 1974. Since the time of publication, diagnosis has improved significantly. For myasthenia there is a number of immunological and electrophysiological tests, and the inflammatory myopathies too can be diagnosed with a lot more confidence. Still, diagnosis is not perfect and it is known from large studies that even conditions like Parkinson's are misdiagnosed in up to 10% (when comparing the symptoms in life with the findings on postmortem examination of the brain). Life would be rather a lot easier if all diagnosis was infallible.
I hope you understand that discussion of a single historical case of misdiagnosis is not appropriate for an encyclopedia article unless this particular case led to widespread changes in public or professional perception. In response to your message on my talk page: I am not too delighted with your accusation of me being "self-indulgent". It matters little whether the suitability of the source is tested on WT:MED or WP:RSN. I think I have given a pretty clear explanation as to why I think the source in question is of little relevance to readers. In resource-poor settings (which Canada isn't), diagnosis can still be achieved on clinical grounds (features on history and examination) but there is probably a slightly higher risk that the diagnosis is not secure. That is not unique to these conditions - in the absence of diagnostics it is possible to misdiagnose early viral haemorrhagic fever as malaria, etc. JFW | T@lk 13:51, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your further message on my talkpage. All medical articles employ roughly the same style (see WP:MEDMOS) that might occasionally make them sound like an undergraduate textbook. At the same time, we strive hard to make the content useful and comprehensible for everyone. What we try not to do is provide long lists of "differential diagnoses" for each medical problem, because that is definitely something unsuitable for an encyclopedia and more the domain of medical textbooks.
When I alluded to immunological tests I was referring to concepts that are widely discussed (antibodies against the acetylcholine receptor and the MuSK protein), and "electrophysiological tests" refers to nerve conduction studies.
When it comes to discussing misdiagnosis in the context of any medical article, we are bound by the availability of solid medical sources (ideally recent, peer-reviewed, secondary sources). Unfortunately this is not something that has been very well studied, and MG is no exception.
If you believe there is a pervasive problem with the medical content on Wikipedia I would strongly recommend you enunciate this on WT:MED so these concerns can be addressed by the medical editing community. I will stop now. JFW | T@lk 17:51, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Iveco Eurocargo redirect

Hi, I have changed the redirect for the above to point to Iveco rather than Ford Cargo due to them being produced by two different manufacturers - Granted, the Ford Cargo was an Iveco product, but only because Iveco was part of Ford and not Fiat as it is now - where the Eurocargo comes in.
