List of State Highways in Kentucky (1001-2000)
A {{prod}} template has been added to the article List of State Highways in Kentucky (1001-2000), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. USRD Inactivity check and news report
Hello, TwinsMetsFan. We had a few urgent matters to communicate to you:
- Please update your information at Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Participants, our new centralized participant list. Those who have not done so by October 20th will be removed.
- There are important discussions taking place at WT:USRD relating to whether WP:USRD, WP:HWY, or the state projects should hold the "power" in the roads projects.
Regards, Rschen7754 (T C) 23:41, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Orange County Routes
Hey Twinkees, I'm interested in starting up pages for these routes. Wondering if you can help make shields or hook me up with a template to make the Orange County shields, in svg format. Image:OrangeCR72EasternBegin.jpg will show you what the shields look like in Orange County if you're unfamiliar. No rush, just started compiling some info on a few today.
Also made an adjustment to NY 306 (History). Hope that's worded better for wiki.
Thanks, and have a good weekend! --Airtuna08 00:32, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- Uh, "Twinkees"? If you want to abbreviate my username, use "TMF" instead. That is the reason I use the abbrevation in my sig in the first place. And that's putting aside the fact that I'm a Mets fan before a Twins fan.
- County routes are not automatically notable per WP:USRD/NT. If you believe every county route in every county in New York should have an article, as it appears you do, you may want to comment there.
- No template currently exists for Orange CR shields, and I would have to be convinced that a CR deserves an article before I make a shield for it. Not trying to come off as cold-hearted, but the crap going on at WT:USRD is disheartening. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 02:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Then shouldn't it be MetsTwinsFan, haha? Called ya Twinkees cause its always been a nickname I've heard and used referring to them. But I will call you TMF, I was only messing with you as I'm a diehard MLB fan myself. The '08 in my username refers to the 1908 Chicago Cubs. Sad, isn't it?
But on to my serious part here, I'm doing this more as a hobby. I'm not a computer programmer, but because of the subject matter (roads/maps) I've wanted to learn some and help. I didn't even know there was a whole wikiproject committee when I started writing about the Rockland Routes. Had I known I wouldn't have wasted my time. Cause I get slapped with whatever I do, and treated like a vandal when all I'm doing is adding credible info I've gathered. I think were all trying to do the same thing here, but obviously everyone wants their own touch on these pages.
I joined the project because I had done all that work and thought I could be of help. That's why I asked if I could help you with maps or even making shields. I've made them before but I was shot down cause they didn't meet standards of which I wasn't aware. That's why I asked you for help this time. That's all. You don't want pages for OC, I won't make them. Saves me alot of time. There's no way I can get every county route a page. I thought that's what you guys wanted. So, again, I figured I could help.
But as far as the whole politics, I'm not ready to dive into it. Frankly, I'm befuzzled as to why there are so many pissy people on this site. Not saying you, but someone trying to have some fun doing something is shot down more often than not. When in reality, wikipedia needs all the people they can get to help. I understand there has to be some semblance of order around here, but it is ridiculous. If you don't want to do the OC shield I understand. But I don't get why we all go nuts with each other when were all roadbuffs and are just trying to do the same thing. How many of these road pages actually get read anyway?

Regarding PROD nominations as debates
PROD nominations are indeed debates, albeit limited ones waged on the talk-page with an outcome of leaving the PROD-nomination in place or removing it. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 14:30, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- I've discussed this with other users, and they have the same opinion as myself. If someone disagrees with a PROD, they can remove it, ending the process, but if someone disagrees with an AFD or TFD, the debate continues. The "talk page discussion" you speak of rarely occurs from what I've seen as 9 times out of 10, a PROD has either been removed or retained, with no discussion either way. The reason other (xFD) debates are listed is that XFDs require the opinions of multiple users. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:37, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
NY 111 & Suffolk CR 17
Suffolk County Department of Public Works told me in a letter years ago that the switch between NY 111 & Suffolk County Road 17 was made on September 13, 1966, and they have a PDF file of their routes that proves it too. I wish I knew the link. ---- DanTD 18:50, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm...maybe I can search for it (the PDF). Thanks for the heads up. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:36, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well, since I have my own copy of that file(not the link to the file, though), I was hoping I could send it to you somehow. It also confirms the info regarding Suffolk CR 46, and the years that many other Suffolk County Roads were established. ---- DanTD 11:29, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm, apparently the wiki e-mail feature doesn't support attachments. I suppose you could send me an e-mail via the "e-mail this user" link, then I can reply to that (which would give you my e-mail), and you can send the PDF that way. Alternatively, you can catch me on the roads IRC channel. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 13:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

I-576 speculations
The infos was added back by User:Highwaydude2007 I couldn't determine whether this is speculation or factual, that's because on the citation he didn't cite the page (that site has 12, and it is part of Adobe). Cleanup of Template:Infobox road/doc
I would think that having it organized and making it easier to read would be "cleanup". Please tell me why reverting whitespace on a template is necessary, though. It's ignored anyways by rendering, and it does make it easier on the eyes for those editing. I don't see why you couldn't have just posted on my talk page. Besides, other infobox documentation has been started/edited this way, and I don't see them reverted (like Template:Infobox animanga for example). If by any chance there was a parameter actually affected by including whitespace, then that specific parameter could've just had its whitespace removed. I don't see why, for example, having
|length_mi = 20 |cities = [[Benicia, California|Benicia]]
over
|length_mi=20 |cities=[[Benicia, California|Benicia]]
would be such a change to revert over. --Geopgeop 06:21, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Frankly, I also don't see the point of changing it to have spaces in the first place. To me, having spaces is distracting and it adds unnecessary bytes to the size of each article. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:25, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, first, a page showing whitespace is ignored: Help:Template#Template mechanism. Second, and after reading Wikipedia:Article size, yes adding whitespace does add bytes, but they are probably not going to add up to multiple kilobytes, if not at most one. Imagine if Wikipedia kept the old CamelCase format for article names just because they saved a byte or two. And, well, just to note, (no disrespect intended) your signature does not exactly save bytes either, what with the font tags and all.
- So, all in all, can I change it back, please? --Geopgeop 06:59, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- You'd need to discuss that on the template talk. In the 16 months that the template's been in heavy use, no one has attempted to add unnecessary spacing, nor have they shown a desire to from what I've seen. As for your point that spaces are ignored...yes, you are correct, but I wasn't arguing that point. They're still distracting to me. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 20:35, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Well, I did sort of give a a copy and paste section in June 2006 (see Template_talk:Infobox_road#Copy_and_paste), and well, you did add the doc subpage in later in April 2007. I'll ask. --Geopgeop 22:07, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
template issue
You are the second person I have seen using {{unreferenced|section|date=October 2007}} instead of {{unreferencedsect|date=October 2007}} The "section" parmeter is useless and the first wording is just the {{unreferenced}} and puts the article in the category for articles with no sources at all. Do you know where you copied this incorrect formula from?--BirgitteSB 13:58, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I didn't "copy" that code from anywhere; it's just what I use. It's better to have an incorrect tag than no tag at all, IMHO. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 16:00, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oh I agree. I am just trying to track down the the incorrect code's orgin so I can fix it. I found out there is a problem in the usage intstructions since writing the above.--BirgitteSB 16:36, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I'm not big on I guess what some would call reference template usage (difference between "unreferenced", "refimprove", etc.), although I know some are, so I see where the issue is stemming from. To me, it just seems like a lot of templates that serve the same purpose. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

i-79
Hey, I see that you my edits didn't follow the 'format' on the i-79 page and you reverted them. It's fine that you want everything in a consistant format, but you shouldn't have used the revert button. There were mistakes on this page as to destinations that I fixed, and now they've all be changed back and are incorrect again. I'm not being a smartass, I'd just appreciate that you wouldn't have used the revert tool to change the format. Now I've gotta review the whole document to remake my edits to the destinations. Mr. Vitale 21:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- I apologize for any inconvenience, but I don't have to time to sift through what's good and bad. Based on your recent edits to other Pennsylvania interstates, you still haven't read WP:ELG, which calls for roads to be separated by slashes and destinations to be separated by commas. Your edits are, thus, not compliant with ELG. Examples of compliant exit lists can be found at the bottom of WP:ELG. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:01, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

405
Why'd you remove the "Popular Culture" section of 405? I found that to be interesting:
==In popular media==
- I-405 was the subject of a 3-minute computer-generated movie called 405, produced in May 2000 by Bruce Branit and Jeremy Hunt. The movie depicted a DC-10 jet making an emergency landing on the freeway behind a driver.
- The band Death Cab for Cutie referenced the interstate in their song titled "405," though the reference is more likely to the Washington interstate of the same name.
- Lazlo Bane's song I'm No Superman mentions "heading down the 405" on a journey to work.
- Lisa Marr's song 'In California' (as performed by Neko Case) refers to 'another suicide on the 405'
- Switchfoot's song Ameteur Lovers mentions "drivin' home on the 405" as well as the 805
- Comedian Dwayne Perkins (Comedy Central Presents...) does a bit about the congestion level of the 405 and his proposed solution: the highway bouncer, who only lets cars pass on their way to work, in case of a medical emergency, or on their way to get a little sumthin' sumthin'.
- The congestion level is compared to jail i.e. "to all my brother's locked up on the 405", in the Smirnoff "response" video to East Coast Tea Partay —Preceding unsigned comment added by Atanamir (talk • contribs)
- "Interesting" doesn't mean it should be there. It's nothing more than random trivial facts lumped together and I fail to see how it adds anything to the article. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:23, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
I didn't realize this broke categories; sorry about that. However, I disagree about the scope differences; are you saying that in some states the local roads are only part of USRD, and that when adding the state parameter I have to check the scope of that state project? --NE2 06:53, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- That is correct, and if you disagree with that, you'll have to bring it up with the individual project(s) in question or at WT:USRD. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 06:55, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I'll go back to just tagging with template:USRD and no state parameter. --NE2 06:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

NY 3 history
I see that you recently added history to NY 3. I don't know for sure, since I haven't read the book, but you can probably get some more information from "Moose Crossing: Portland to Portland on the Theodore Roosevelt International Highway" (ISBN 0761835105). Given how many universities have it, you should be able to get a copy through interlibrary loan. --NE2 19:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Planned template improvements
You might want to fix the Mapdetails param too...having one odd capitalized parameter isn't a good idea. Also, I think it should work regardless of if the map param is yes or no; sometimes an article has a map but it's not up to par with the standards. —Scott5114↗ 08:16, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I'll look into it. I'm not aware of any articles that use the parameter, but I'll work it into the replacements. As for it working with both yes/no... I'll look into that as well. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 18:51, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Template Help
Hi TMF, I have just made a few edits to the Utah State Route Infobox. I tried to add a space for a map (see Utah State Route 150 for an example) but I am not sure that I did everything correctly as this is my first infobox edit. I noticed that you have editted this template before, could you please take a look at it to see if everything is in there correctly? Template:Infobox Utah Route I tried to base it on the Massachussets template so it looks like this: Massachusetts Route 128. Any help on the matter would be appreciated.
Also, is there a way to push down the updated template so that other Utah route editors can see there is a space for a map now? Thanks.--Glennfcowan 16:24, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like the parameter was added successfully. I'm not sure what you mean by the second paragraph there - if you mean that you want to let other editors know of the change, you could always post on WT:UTSH. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 18:14, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

You recently classified this article as "Start" class. I really don't understand. It has an infobox with a map (which I believe you originally provided, so thanks), and well-developed paragraphs on the route description, its confusing official designations, and some possible alternate routes. It includes comprehensive lists of all communities along the route, major intersections, and exits. Some history is given. It is well-referenced. In fact, I think (if I do say so myself) that this is a model article.
This is a short highway in a rural area. What more could be included? I can understand "B", simply because the highway is not of sufficient intrinsic interest to warrant more. But "Start" implies that more work needs to be done. Please tell me what. Thanks. --ubiquity (talk) 01:06, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- More work does indeed need to be done, including
- The length in the infobox and the exit list is referenced to Gribblenation instead of the traffic counts, which Gribblenation gets the length from. Additionally, the length in the junction table is unreferenced and not as precise as those given in the traffic counts.
- The history has some fairly obvious gaps. When was NY 57 assigned? When was NY 481 assigned? When was the current routing of NY 481 south of where it meets CR 57 constructed? Did NY 481 carry any designations prior to NY 57? All of those questions are unanswered and can be answered with research. Heck, I'd do it myself, but there's only 24 hours in a day, and tbh, I'm wikibonked right now, hence the wikibreak. The date in the infobox is also unreferenced.
- The communities section needs to be converted to the new "floating box" format.
- The lead is incredibly short.
- The exit list is using outdated image placement that is now incompliant with the exit list guide.
- There are also better references out there for the CR 57 designations, such as the NYSDOT topographic quadrangles found here. What was a B-Class article six months ago is most likely not B-Class today, as it is now much easier to obtain history for routes in New York. You'll want to begin with the resources at NYSR if you want to tackle the history. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 01:20, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- After rereading your post, I also strongly disagree with your thought that NY 481 is "a short highway in a rural area". NY 104B is a true "short highway in a rural area" - NY 481, by contrast, is over 30 miles long, much longer than a lot of state routes in New York, and passes through three urbanized areas - Oswego, Fulton, and Syracuse. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 01:29, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
All right, your points are well-taken. However, it's all relative -- I assure you, that after living most of my life in Dallas, Houston and Austin, Oswego and Fulton seem incredibly rural. ;-) --ubiquity (talk) 02:27, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
WikiRoads - type=decomd
If they didn't want people using decomd, they wouldn't leave it in the description, or they would say "there's no reason at all to use the decomd type, as its little more than a leftover from the old routebox format" and tell people not to use it. Why do we bother using noaccess and concur, then? No point in showing unaccessible points from a route to an expressway, is there? Why don't we just go through and pull all of those out, then too? *Jerry Seinfeld voice* And what's the deal with concurrencies being a different color? *end voice*
Why are we bothering to put old route junctions in anyway? They're not a state route anymore, whats the point? Oh yeah, because the wikiproject says to.... Funny, it also seems to mention something about using a tag called "decomd" for "for intersections with decommissioned routes or segments"
Oh and I love the "i think i know what i'm doing" part. Awesome. I'll come to you the next time I have a question about whether the cspan tag will allow me to watch the US Senate.
(Oh, and you're welcome... the US 20 page really seems to have taken off. I wonder who started that? *looks around and whistles*)
My sarcasm got the better of me. ClarkCT (talk) 18:16, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- If you'd look at the talk page of both NYSR and USRD, I have proposed the removal of the decomd type. I also agree with your sentiments regarding the noaccess type and would not be opposed to removing that as well, as you can see from my post on USRD. Now that I look at the NYSR project page, I can't help but notice a few sections are a bit out of date and don't quite match practice. The reason I say "i think i know what i'm doing" is that if you'd look at my contributions, you'd see that I've been working on New York route articles for roughly a year and a half, so I know what the standards call for. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 18:35, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Route Signs
Hey - how do I go about making sign images? I do have the roadgeek fonts. I also have Macromedia Fireworks MX, can I import svg files that already have the numbers on them and edit the numbers that way or will I have to try and just use a blank background and figure out the exact placement and size of the numbers? Thanks in advance. ClarkCT (talk) 08:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- Due to the fact that the Wiki servers don't have the Roadgeek fonts installed, any text on any road shield has to be converted to path before uploading, making the numbers impossible to change. What you can do, though, is import an existing SVG then replace the number by making a text object with the new number, resizing the text to the height of the old, path number, then position it according to the position of the previous number. It's a PITA but until the servers install Roadgeek (which is probably unlikely to ever happen, unfortunately), that's the only option we have. I circumvent most of the process, though, by using templates for various states that I've or others have made. Some of these are available on the Wikimedia Commons in the same category as the normal route shields, typically at the very back of the category. If you decide to make shields for states/areas with no template, you'll need to find some standards; the USRD page has some links that may be useful.
- Also, all of our freely-licensed shields (typically public domain) are uploaded on the Wikimedia Commons for two reasons: they can be used on other Wikimedia projects if uploaded there and they're much easier to categorize there. If you decide to make shields, you'll want to open an account there. Also check out WP:USRD/S - the USRD task force dedicated to shield making. It's a popular hangout for USRD shield creators/editors, and has a page where you can request missing shields. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 10:43, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Assessment categories
I modified template:USRD to take care of the U.S. and Interstate categories directly for anything with state= or type= US/I/Interstate. I think I got everything working fine, but you may want to verify. --NE2 14:07, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- OK, the code looks good, but I disagree with the capitalization ("system" vs. "System" for the USH cats). --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 23:03, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
I like the updates and corrections that you made to the article recently. However, there are a couple more things that I think should be added or corrected. I thought it would be best to leave you a message rather than change them myself. Here's what I have...
- Is there any concensus regarding hamlets versus towns in the info box? I suppose that more people may be familiar with "Latham" versus "Colonie", but Latham is only a hamlet. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other I guess.
- In the info box, the interchange with 787 should be changed back to "Colonie" from "Green Island". Only a very small portion of the interchange (i.e. the east end of a couple of the ramps) is in Green Island. Most of the interchange is in Colonie.
- There has been some debate on the Interstate 787 page as to whether I-787 actually ends at the Route 7, or whether it continues over the Collar City bridge. The signs were removed from the Collar City bridge when Route 787 was extended into Cohoes to avoid confusion. However, there are still signs at the east end of the bridge indicating that I-787 starts there. I'm not sure whether it's worth mentioning this overlap or not.
Again, nice work, I look forward to hearing back from you. Apr1fool (talk) 21:27, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'll answer each point individually:
- There's no guideline for what location to use for junctions in the infobox. Common practice is to use a location that best gives the physical location of a route, whether it be a hamlet or a village or city, etc.
- You are correct regarding this; but Green Island definitely gives a better location of where the interchange is than just saying Colonie, even if stating that it is in the village isn't 100% correct.
- Probably not; it's dicey mentioning it on the I-787 page as it is (and also needs a lot of references due to the nature of the topic) and it really doesn't relate directly to NY 7. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 22:50, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually it does relate directly to NY 7: it (presumably) means that part of NY 7 was built with Interstate funding. --NE2 22:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- If you can make it relate to NY 7, then by all means add it; my comments are only my opinion. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 23:03, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I'm curious why you think Saw Mill River Parkway should be tagged as a stub? It doesn't look like a stub to me. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:00, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- It's a stub to me because it has only a lead and an exit list - not really above stub class in my book. Now, to someone who doesn't edit road articles, it may not be a stub, and I understand that position; but, the truth is that the article is severely lacking, with no in-depth description of its routing nor any history. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 04:45, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

U.S. Route 378
Hello, I see you edited the major junctions for this highway. Yea, I guess that was too many for that little box. But I wonder about putting Sumter SC as the junction with I-95. Sumter is a ways up 378 from I-95, I think about 15 miles. I'll have to check the odermeter next time I drive to Sumter. Alcolu would be a better choice, which is only a stone's throw from I-95. The only problem is there is no article for Alcolu yet. So what is better, a link that is farther away? Or one that is actually closer?
I'm very into maps and plan on doing a lot of work on the SC and GA highway articles. I hope to take some pictures soon of some of the highways in my area. (I live in Manning, SC). Later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 05:20, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I had a total brain dump, I was talking for a friend about highway 521 when I was writing about highway 378. Turbeville would be a better choice than sumter. It is only about 8 miles from I-95. Sumter might be closer to 20 miles from I-95 taking highway 378. Rocketmaniac (talk) 06:56, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
- I took a second look on a map and I agree that Turbeville would be a better choice for the I-95 location. I made the change and added a different junction for Sumter. Good to see there's someone with interest in editing South Carolina road articles; since they're aren't a lot of SC editors in WP:USRD, they're in pretty rough shape. You may also be interested in WP:SCSH, a former WikiProject for South Carolina highways that's been demoted to a task force of USRD due to inactivity and poor article quality. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 12:29, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

US 15
Hello. I worked on the SC, NC, VA and MD sections of US 15. After looking at PA, I'd feel better if someone from that area or someone with more knowledge of the issues of that section of highway re-write the PA section of the US 15 article.
In other news, I am taking my camera with me whenever I travel so I can take pictures of SC roads. Talk to you later, Rocketmaniac (talk) 04:41, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. As for US 15, I could probably do the PA section since I've been on it a couple of times. Fortunately, I already rewrote the NY section a while ago, so once the PA section is done, the only issue left on the page would be referencing the history. --TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 14:44, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Quebec Route 209
I've fixed the error there as Transports Quebec maps here (Click on the Monteregie region south of the island of Montreal) shows that it ends at NY-189 and fr:Route 209 (Québec) also mentions that it ends at the US border. Thanks for the report.--JForget 15:39, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Major intersections template, Tennessee subproject
Hello TMF, I've got a template question for you. WP:TNSR was started not long ago and I've been trying to iron out several things on the subproject page. One area, is with the major intersections template...right now I've posted on the project page to use {{jcttop}}, {{jctint}}, {{jctbottom}} for this purpose which is in use on TN 211 and seems to work fine. My question is does the TN subproject need a specialized template for this such as what Kentucky uses {{KYinttop}}, {{KYintbottom}}? Thanks Pepper6181 (talk) 01:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Pepper. Nope, the KY header/footer templates are just redirects to {{jcttop}}, etc., so using the generic {{jcttop}}, etc. is perfectly fine. Regards, TMF Let's Go Mets - Stats 01:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
