[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I'm attempting to update information for a business, but there is nothing promotional in nature being edited or added - I'm editing inaccuracies and updating sources so that wiki users are seeing the most accurate and up-to-date information about the business. I'm not trying to hide any affiliation with the organization, but how is the information supposed to stay up-to-date and accurate if the edits I made are blocked and not allowed? They are also not promotional in nature. Dell2023 (talk) 18:22, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Voice of Clam (talk) 06:47, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are you employed by Dell in any capacity? 331dot (talk) 18:30, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, are edits allowed if disclosed? That's why I was saying, not trying to hide affiliation at all. Just want to be able to update inaccurate information and provide up-to-date sources. Is this common or do organizations not do this? Thank you for your help! Dell2023 (talk) 19:03, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Articles are typically written and edited by independent editors wholly unconnected with the topic, based on information in independent reliable sources, though primary sources can be used in certain conditions. Please read the conflict of interest and paid editing policies and tell us how your future edits will be consistent with those policies. 331dot (talk) 19:16, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information - I have read through those policies and understand them. My only question is, is this not common practice for other large companies, to want to update inaccurate information? There is a lot of out-of-date information on the Dell page and if the organization doesn't correct it, who will? Again, very thankful for your help, just trying to understand how to do this correctly and transparently. Dell2023 (talk) 19:24, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Declared paid editors are permitted to make formal Edit requests on article talk pages for review and implementation by volunteer editors. Your current username is a violation of the Wikipedia:Username policy. You need to address that issue. Cullen328 (talk) 19:31, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. I understand. I did try and request a new name above, as per the name change since the business name is not allowed. I'm waiting on approval of that change above. Dell2023 (talk) 19:38, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have renamed the account. You will need to agree to make the paid editing disclosure; are you okay with refraining from directly editing about Dell, and making edit requests as Cullen328 describes? 331dot (talk) 12:54, 26 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
