[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, Thalesavionics, may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it promotes a company. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may file for a change of username Thank you. Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Request reason:

My account is Thalesavionics and my article about Thales Avionics has been deleted and my account has been blocked. im not completely sure why my article got deleted and my account got blocked, but im assuming that my account name and the article im trying to write matches and makes it seem like im advertising. i am totally willing to change my username, but im am trying to write a new article to educate the public that there is another company that has been creating inflight entertainment and am part of the Thales Group thats already in wiki. Thales Avionics is another division that has split up and i swear that i am in no means of trying to promote or advertise the company. if you looks at my intro sentence its simply states that Thales avionics is a branch company of Thales group and that they make IFE systems i had no idea that informing the public with more information could be advertising but i can see your point of view. i am a student at a college and i thought id try and improve wiki with more information with skills i have learned about writing my classes. though i am blocked for now, i hope you see that i am honest and the mistake i had made will be fixed. please just tell me how to do it without making it seem like advertising.

Decline reason:

As your name directly matches a corporate entity, this username cannot be unblocked, as per the username policy. If you use the {{unblock-spamun}} request to change your username, it will not absolve you from conflict of interest as noted below. As I know of Thales as a whole, I cannot see yet how the Avionics division is at all notable yet as a separate entity - Wikipedia is not a business directory. So, in short, yes - we could unblock you to change your username, but this will not permit you to create the article again - some information may be added to the Thales article, but beware of COI. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I am completely willing to believe you are editing in good faith. No worries there. However, something you may want to be aware of is that the company you wish to write about may have two issues. One is conflict of interest - users agree to avoid writing about subjects with which they are closely personally connected for the great majority. The other, possibly more hardline issue is notability. For a company to be suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia, it (among other things) needs to meet the notability criteria for groups and companies. If the company in question does not, it's not suitable for inclusion even if written about in a neutral, objective way. - Vianello (Talk) 04:26, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
