Welcome

[edit]

G'day and welcome to Wikipedia, I see that you've created a couple of articles on some of the new Melbourne players. Can you please try to ensure that you add at least one reliable source to verify their notability - and if possible, wait until they make their AFL debut. The problem we have is that there is a guideline, WP:ATHLETE, that states that athletes aren't notable unless they have played at a professional level. Obviously, neither of these guys have played AFL yet. I have sucessfully claimed in past deletion attempts that the general notability guideline outranks the WP:ATHLETE guideline. This means that you need to find at least one independant (ie not from the club or AFL website), reliable (so not from Bigfooty or your local or school paper), non-trival coverage (ie not just a listing that he played in a match, or was drafted, but something in a bit more detail) of each and every player. I see that Max Gawn has one good reference - you really need to find one for Fitzpatrick or else others may try to delete the article. BTW, James Strauss (Australian rules footballer) and Jordie McKenzie have both made their debut, but don't have pages, so they might be good pages to do next.

If you have any questions or queries, then don't hesitate to reply here or on my talk page. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 12:56, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Jack Fitzpatrick. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jack Fitzpatrick has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Nice work

[edit]

If you had left it as just the club website profile some may have challenged it as not being an independent reference, but the one from The Age is perfect. Just have a look at how I reformated them to hide the raw URL - just looks better. Hope you enjoyed the win tonight too! Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 15:54, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Dandenong Stingrays Captains requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. The-Pope (talk) 12:19, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading File:ESPN Football Today.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:38, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article ESPN Football Today has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
