deaths > suicides

Hey, Treehouse.poet! I see you've been changing the categorization of articles from deaths to suicides. I'm not sure that's the correct way to deal with this -- I'm thinking you could add that category, but that the category for '1933 deaths' or whatever should still be in there? Hey, Valereee! Category:Suicides by year is a subcategory to the main Category:Deaths by year anyway, so technically it remains there, it's just a specification. This categorization was newly introduced some time ago and recently (this January) a bot called JJMC89 bot III (JJMC89) had begun to move categorizations from deaths to suicides, some other users did so as well. Lots of articles were categorized this way before I started retouching. User:Spiderjerky &/or User:Marcocapelle implemented it. Treehouse.poet (talk) 19:11, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Treehouse.poet and Valereee, Hope you don't mind my chiming in. I've been looking into this since an article on my watchlist got recategorized from death to suicide the other day. The clearest statement I've found about the deaths by year category is at Wikipedia:People by year. There's nothing saying there can't also be a suicide by year category though. @JJMC89 is there any way to easily find one of those edit summaries so I can get to the discussion, other than paging through the bot's edits and searching each page for "suicide"? T.P, I think what JJMC is saying is that you don't need to add them back, that what you saw the bot doing did have a discussion and that the bot was (and you were) correctly implementing the discussion. (FFR, it's good to go check the discussion for yourself so you can answer questions like these when they come up.) —valereee (talk) 15:47, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@Valereee: I don't know what discussion you are looking for. Below are the CFD links from all the January 2021 edit summaries that mention suicide or death. The bot will fully implement the discussion outcomes, so there shouldn't be additional recategorization needed for these. — JJMC89 (T·C) 18:48, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

@Valereee The bot did not migrate deaths to suicides. I got that wrong. It had just removed several subcategories within the suicide category-complex. The migrations were basically executed by other users. See for example : Diane Arbus. The bot removed the photographer suicide- subcat, User:Marcocapelle then changed it from death to suicide. Thanks, JJMC, I think it was just a miscommunication -- I thought T.P was saying the bot had been replacing cat deaths with cat suicides, and you were saying there'd be a link to a discussion regarding that!
