A tag has been placed on User:UFOMarketing/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. 2601:19E:4180:6D50:0:0:0:4C4B (talk) 20:53, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, UFOMarketing. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. The page User:UFOMarketing/sandbox has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It is not an outlet for promotion, advocacy, or advertising.

Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.

Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.

Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. Anything can be promoted, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources. This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can also ask for help at the TEAHOUSE and on IRC chat.

New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:57, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am not receiving direct compensation for creating this page but I work on the UF Marketing team and was assigned to create a wikipedia page for UF Online as an informative resource, I understand the reason for my previous blocking was due to the username including the words marketing but that was done only as page is meant to be operated by the marketing department. I have adjusted the username to not flag this as a marketing page or advertisement. Again, it was created solely for educational purposes. If unblocked I plan to have this page updated annually for potential students interested in the University of Florida's online counterpart.

Decline reason:

I'm going to take this point by point.
  1. You misunderstand the username policy and how to use this account. Accounts are for individuals only, not organizations or groups. Each account is for the exclusive use of a single person who may not give others access. Others in your marketing section will need their own accounts(but they should not create them until this is resolved, or they may be blocked as sock puppets of you). Your choice of username is not acceptable, as it does not reflect the fact that a specific individual must be using this account. You are discouraged from using your real name, but your username must be unique to you.
  2. New accounts cannot create new articles(the preferred term, not "page") and must use Articles for Creation to create and submit drafts. Wikipedia is not a place for organizations to tell the world about themselves and their offerings; an article about an organization must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the organization, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. We are interested in what others say about your organization, not what it says about itself and what it does/its offerings.
  3. You must make the Terms of Use-required paid editing disclosure and read conflict of interest.
  4. The university(or you as its representative) has no special rights to articles about it on Wikipedia, at least no more than any other editor. You can't restrict others from editing about it, or exclusively dictate what appears in an article about it. See WP:OWN.
  5. What you describe as your purpose here is considered promotional(per what I say above) and will not be permitted. Your university website or social media is where you should post text designed to help prospective students. You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, contribute about your organization. If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road. If you are interested in being a general contributor and editing about topics unrelated to your conflict of interest, please tell what. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 21:44, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
