There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Longhair\talk 18:49, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question about being blocked

[edit]

@Longhair: I believe I understand why you blocked my account. Would it help if I remove the Rankings information from the pages? I have been merely trying to keep them from being out-of-date. I was thinking of changing my username also, but it would still be tied to an email account that is shared even though I'm the only one using this account to edit in Wikipedia. Perhaps I should start with a fresh account tied to my own email? Please forgive my mistakes, I rarely get in here to edit but I want to make sure I am not violating policies when I am.

@Wcbawebmaster: The block notice above addresses the reasons for your block. Your username is considered a role account and you are also editing with a clear conflict of interest. To be considered for an unblock please follow the directions above so another administrator may review thanks. -- Longhair\talk 01:56, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I understand that the username I have appears to be a group account. I also understand that the pages I've been editing are related to that user name. Could I be advised on how to change my account information (username and email) or what course of action would be best? While I don't plan to do a lot of editing on Wikipedia in general, could I be allowed to make changes to some of the same pages that would reduce the need for updates? Meaning, I am happy to remove anything that seems promotional like the rankings information and I'm open to suggestions here. I just need some advice and I promise to follow the guidelines as best as I understand them. I do apologize as I didn't previously know about the username issue, and was being pressured to fix broken links and outdated info. I should have known better about the information being promotional. I have explained this to those asking for the changes. Once some adjustments are made, I shouldn't need to go in to the pages and edit anymore.

Decline reason:

Please follow the instructions in your block notice for requesting an unblock and new username at the same time. In addition, the other elements of the block still need to be addressed. To be unblocked:

If you have no interest in editing Wikipedia beyond writing about your organization, then you will not be unblocked. If this is the case, I recommend you consider alternative outlets.

So we know understanding is mutual, please state your understanding/response to each item in your own words.

I'm sorry that this message could not be more favorable. 331dot (talk) 15:49, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

@331dot: OK, I do understand your response and reasons. Here are my responses:

  • I am the only one using this Wikipedia account though I had initially wanted to change it to another email address that was not a shared one
  • I understand about directly editing articles related to the organization I work for. I did not know I could request changes to an article, so perhaps I will do that from now on.
  • I understand the terms.
  • I am just going to say that I don't really plan to edit Wikipedia, so whatever you recommend to do with this account to keep it from getting hacked or renewed in anyway, I am ok with that.

Thank you for your responses and advice. Let me know what else I need to do, if anything.Wcbawebmaster (talk) 16:30, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You are free to make a new unblock request, that will be reviewed by a heretofore uninvolved administrator, to make the above points. In terms of 'hacking', if you don't intend to use this account any longer, no action needs to be taken. 331dot (talk) 16:36, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
