June 2022

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 07:11, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your message on my talk page

[edit]

Here is my reply to your posting on my talk page. You made a mistake that a lot of companies seem to make on Wikipedia... you believed that your company is entitled to a Wikipedia article just because it exists. This is not correct - Wikipedia is not a business directory where companies can list themselves as part of their online presence. Wikipedia is not for promotion/advertising/publicity.

All topics on Wikipedia - people, companies, places, etc. - must be notable as Wikipedia defines notability. To be deemed notable enough for inclusion, the topic must have already gained significant coverage from multiple reliable, third-party sources. In the case of companies, the notability criteria for companies is a refinement of the general criteria that determines if a company is worthy of inclusion.

You should pay attention to three elements of what I stated:

  • Significant coverage - The writing about the company must be in-depth; brief mentions or routine coverage isn't enough.
  • Reliable source - The information must come from a source that has an established reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight. This heavily favours mainstream news organizations, academic press, and reputable publishers of newspapers, books and magazines. Primary sources like a company's own website or interviews with company personnel are only good for verifying basic facts and figures, but little else. Self-published sources like press releases, social media posts and other company-authored materials are almost always disqualified.
  • Third-party - The sources must be independent of the company, meaning they must have no personal, political or financial interest in it. This is to ensure that the information is objective and there is no conflict of interest.

So, unless you can demonstrate that your company is sufficiently notable for inclusion, as evidenced by having extensive coverage in reliable third-party sources, it will not be accepted as the topic of a Wikipedia article. Writing about your own company is an inherent conflict of interest, and writing about your company for self-serving motives won't be allowed here.

You also violated Wikipedia's username policy by naming your account after your company. Accounts cannot be named after businesses, organizations or groups of people. Accounts must represent you as an individual, and you must never share access to this account with anyone else. An acceptable variation would be "[your name] at XChainUS", or something else made up (you don't have to use your real name).

You also wrote the content on your userpage. As I mentioned, an account must represent a single person, and therefore your userpage is a special page for you to write about yourself, the individual operating this account. There are userpage guidelines that describe what kind of content is acceptable and what isn't. Typically, userpages have a small amount of biographical information, a description of your interests and goals as they relate to editing Wikipedia, and any relevant disclosures of conflict of interest and paid editing.

If you still wish to be a Wikipedia editor, then please submit an unblock request with a proposed new username. Be aware that you won't be allowed to write about your company, at least in the short term. You will need to describe other topic areas outside your conflict of interest that you intend to edit, as a demonstration of your willingness to learn Wikipedia's policies and editing culture. However, if you have no interest in writing about anything other than your company, then you should find an alternative outlet where this type of writing is allowed. Thanks. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:44, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
