hey, even though it was a small fix, thanks for the help. It's good to know people are visiting already :) --Opensourcejunkie 09:17, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for work on cisLunarFreighter

[edit source]

Remi, I found this orphaned. http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/CisLunarFreighter/Music It looks very useful to me so I reattached the subpage to cisLunarFreighter. Sorry I have not been more active on the project I am trying to get back into this year. Mirwin 01:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rules of thumb

[edit source]

Hi Remi - what are the rules of thumb you are using to organize Wikiversity content? I'd like to help out if I can... --HappyCamper 04:41, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I often see you processing lists of things at a time. Where do you find these lists of pages? --HappyCamper 01:02, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much, Remi. I think I will things a try when I get a chance. --HappyCamper 00:48, 16 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Useful robots

[edit source]

Hi Remi, I'm responding to your tag. What's going on here is that I just got back from vacation, and I'm working to bring content from SocietyOfRobots.com over here. As some content migrates, it will be easier to tag it. For now, I stuck the general Engineering category tag on it. Thanks. - Dan Dank55 17:02, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikiworld

[edit source]

Hey Remi, I just stumbled across No Working Title via your recent edit - this reminded me of a recent piece called "Wikiworld" by Paul diFilippo. Have you read it? I enjoyed it... Cormaggio talk 10:58, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Topic:Traditional Satanism Studies

[edit source]

Hi Remi, thanks for pointing me to Topic:Traditional Satanism Studies. I think it should be ok - but the whole domain of beliefs on Wikiversity is a bit tricky, I think. Wikipedia has no problem in dealing with this - it will have an article describing the beliefs of Satanism; but Wikiversity's mission goes further, allowing material which strays significantly from NPOV. So, there will inevitably be content on belief systems that will be quite uncomfortable or simply unacceptable for other people who do not share that belief system. This is a critical question on Wikiversity - we've had discussion at Science teaching materials for creationism but I'm not sure that we are able to say what our policies in this area are, or indeed, what are our boundaries. In general, I think, working out critical perspectives (ie those that question our own and others' beliefs) on belief systems would be an excellent way forward for Wikiversity. So, working with the people who are developing content on belief systems, and offering constructive critique, seems like a good way to proceed. Cormaggio talk 10:49, 24 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Economic Topic

[edit source]

Hi Remi, I'm new around here and still figure things out. Do you happen to know anyone who active on economic-related topic? I am interested in expanding its content on more basic course but I saw that most topic last edit are about a months or older. If it possible to discuss about the content that would appropriate in many course, that would be of great help. Singhapan 15:04, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Award

[edit source]
The Invisible Barnstar
The invisible barnstar is awarded to contributors who massively contribute to a project without ever making themselves particularly noticeable. Remi is one of Wikiversity's most prolific and also most unnoticed members. This award is presented in grateful recognition. --McCormack 09:44, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Remi. I think only a few of us RC-patrollers are actually aware of all the work you do. I'd been thinking of recognising this for a while, but when I rearranged the mentor list and added up custodian contributions for this year so far, I was nevertheless surprised to find that you had clocked up a higher edit count even than SB_Johnny and Erkan Yilmaz. I think it's high time you got a barnstar! Many thanks for all your work. --McCormack 09:44, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also thanks from my side Remi. Keep up the good work, ----Erkan Yilmaz Wikiversity:Chat 10:22, 15 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Electrical engineering and electronic engineering

[edit source]

You have added a merge tag on electronic engineering but you didn't provide any reasons on the discussion page. The template says "Do not use this template unless you first provide a detailed set of reasons for the merge." so I have commented out the merge template. If you can post your reasons for the merge in the talk page Topic talk:Electronic engineering then the template can be simply uncommented here. Thank You
also

  • electronics engineering is concerned with the study of small signal electronics, circuit level computers, digital processing, and Analog circuitry. mostly voltages under 50 volts.
  • electrical engineering is concerned with the study of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electrical Energy. basically high voltage. mostly voltages over 50 volts or with high amounts of current.

sorry for any confusion and ive added descriptions and mission something ive been meaning to do. Eadthem 21:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

User_talk:Eadthem#Electronic_engineering_merge--Remi 21:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
np the confusion is understandable the wikipdeia artical is correct and thay are sometimes taught as one degree in universty. The reason I believe for the division is that its relatively easy with minimal investment to learn hands on the low voltage side at home while the high voltage high current can be dangerous costly and hard to do by ones self. I do think that both electrical and electronics can share some content and classes and we've tried to number/name them so they are compatible with one another.Eadthem 21:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Categories and navigation

[edit source]

Hi Remi. Here's a job which might be to your taste, as you're probably WV's leading expert on the category system. At the moment I'm beginning to implement the categorytree extension in a template for the main page (and perhaps also for other portals). I haven't noticed an existing category structure which is suitable for use by categorytree, so I've started some work on some hidden categories to populate the tree. If it is to your taste, please feel welcome to dive in and help! The template is at http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Template:Portal_Nav_0.5 . --McCormack 05:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi again and thanks for your message. I didn't quite catch the context of your message - i.e. perhaps you could give a few examples? But "yes", in principle it's probably a good idea. --McCormack 08:06, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Thanks for your reply. Hmmm - thinking! As I'm working on some of this now, I'm also familiar with the issue. For me, the "template" namespace is best used either for material that will be repeatedly used (e.g. Template:Gateways) or for stuff that is assistive or programmatic (e.g. layout holders), and that subpages with real content and used just once (e.g. Portal:something/intro) should be in the same namespace as their parent. On the other hand, I realise my accidental structuring of the main page breaks this rule, and had thought of moving across the namespaces here. Template:Box portal skeleton 2 follows this rule, though. If you like, we can talk on IRC and trade pros and cons more quickly - I'm open to persuasion! --McCormack 08:29, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • By the way, how are your parser expressions? Can you do this one quickly: "if this code ends up in namespace X, do this; else do that" - ? --McCormack 08:32, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Or: "if this page exists, do this, else do that" - ? --McCormack 08:32, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just in case you're looking for some nice category work, all the page linked to from within Topic:Primary School Mathematics need to be categorised into Category:Primary School Mathematics. Once you've done that, see what happens to the dynamic category tree at Portal:Primary Education. Would you like to do some things like this if I draw your attention to them? --McCormack 09:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Futures Studies Category Fixing

[edit source]

Hi Remi, thanks for reaching out! You seem the perfect person to fix this problem, hopefully? I looked at what you linked (Merging Category: Futures Studies and Category: Futures studies) and couldn't figure out how to do it. I've finished my stub edit (enough learning for today!) :) There is also the problem that the phrase "Future Studies" (in singular) seems to be in a number of locations. That phrase is not used by any professional futures educators. It's always in plural (there are many possible futures) at all the ten educational programs that presently exist. Any way you can fix those?--JohnSmart 02:49, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the quick and helpful response Remi. You rock! --67.134.131.210 08:38, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

thanks for the note

"I hope things are well and that maybe you'll find some time for Wikiversity in the future when things shift"

Thanks for the note on my user page. I was asked to teach a couple of courses that I have not taught before, so I have been busy. I hope to have a chance to get back to Wikiversity when things are less hectic in the real world. --JWSchmidt 04:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wikiversity:Browse/Concept

[edit source]

I saw that you had started this page a year ago, and reckoned I'd have a go as well. Any thoughts about the concept? It's a little overwhelming, but I reckon WV needs a page like this somewhere. --McCormack 14:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. I'm glad you like it! When it comes to category questions, your opinion is especially valuable. Phew! Relieved!! --McCormack 18:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
