Cleanup of cat

edit

There are currently 4 (whoops, 6) articles in the "hidden" Cat, and i am eliminating the respective conditions that put them there. Especially since i've never encountered a specific hidden Cat before, & don't know whether the description is adequate to explain how it will be used, i'm documenting here, but not setting whatever status(es) would enable me to see the markup, and i 'spose remove the cat from the articles. The titles:

  1. ISoundtrack II
  2. Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscicida
  3. The Ark (Doctor Who)
  4. The Crusade (Doctor Who)
  5. The Lost Boy (The Sarah Jane Adventures)
  6. White (Made in France)

Perhaps the use of the cat reflects the new error msg that now appears; since no one has seen fit to indicate in this obvious place why not to use the standard fix (Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums#Album_articles' discussion of the infobox seems clueless), i assume my doing the fixes may be a step forward, and feel confident that they are easily reverted if somehow it's a step back.

The "classic" DISPLAYTITLE problem, which is discussed elsewhere, is that Infoboxes need "italic title = no" to work for article titles that need special treatment. #1 is different, but even tho #2 instead uses a "taxobox" (which i haven't encountered in the context of DT-problems), it fixes cleanly. So #1 is a special case deserving explication i can't provide.

The category is indeed related to the new error message: it's added by the same message that generates the error message, and exists so people can more easily find pages with the error. As for seeing the category on pages, the toggle is in the "Appearance" section of Special:Preferences, "Advanced options" group, named "Show hidden categories". "italic title = no" is probably best when that's available; as a last resort, the subsequent instances of DISPLAYTITLE could use "|noerror" to suppress the error.    Even if i'm the only one currently listening to that "fire alarm", and while i'm going to turn down the volume (by unnaturally forcing some error messages to the ends of the respective articles' texts as i give up on my own repair attempts), i'm not about to unplug it in any articles! Hopefully some experienced template-smiths will tackle the omissions of the creators of deviant info-boxes (or their failures to work out obscure quirks in their code).

I had to read your response more than once, bcz it's been a very long time since i thot about error-handling processes taking that much initiative.
I guess that amounts to the Cat being actively in use: now the number of articles is 8. Seven of those are truly fixed, and i presume that {{Infobox comic book title}} has not had its handling of "italic title = no" properly implemented. Presumably a search for articles that invoke that template would offer even more persuasive evidence of that. I think i'll continue to monitor it & respond to the implicit requests for repair.
I intend to make some inquiries of those who placed the Cat tags, to know what its "users" expect; it certainly would be convenient for, me to feel comfortable removing the (currently 7) resolved instances, and know at a glance that those i see are either new or (for me) unresolvable.

template:Infobox ship begin

edit

{{Infobox ship begin}} is causing several of the errors for pages listed in this category, due to its nature of forcing a non-selectable auto-generated DISPLAYTITLE. This can neither be changed nor turned off. -- 70.51.203.69 (talk) 11:29, 23 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
