Au matin, elles se réveillent et constatent avec effroi qu'elles se trouvent sur la place du marché d'Amphissa, chez leurs ennemis. Mais les femmes d'Amphissa se regroupent autour des Bacchantes, les protègent et leur offrent le gîte et le couvert, en suppliant leurs maris de ne pas tuer ces étrangères sans défense.
