History
editThe town was mentioned in 1328, and was a capital of one of the Upper Oka Principalities.[7] In the late 14th century it passed to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and in 1407 it passed to the Grand Duchy of Moscow.[7] It was a fortified town in the 16th century, yet, it was sacked several times.[7]
Formerly a capital of one of the Upper Oka Principalities, Peremyshl contains the ruins of a mid-16th century cathedral which collapsed in the 1980s from neglect. Descendants of the local rulers include the Vorotynsky and Gorchakov families.
