No alcohol (or more to the point, hotels) permitted. -- Longhair 04:33, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

There are hotels in Ascot Vale; many in fact. There is, however, an of Ascot Vale known to locals as "The Temperance Triangle". This area has the boundaries of Union Rd (east side), Maribyrnong Rd (north side), and Epsom Rd (west side).

The triangle has a pub on two of the corners; The Union Hotel and The Waterloo Cup Hotel. The other corner of the triangle is taken up by a sports store but my guess is that a pub once stood there. Even today, it is difficult to obtain a Licquor Licence for the triangle.

Another local area in Ascot Vale is "Whiskey Hill". This has the boundaries of Epsom Rd (east side), Doncaster St (north side), Langs Rd (south side), and the Maribyrnong River. In the early 20th century, a still operated in Monash St (near nos 55/57/60/62, west of Anderson St, just before the road dips down to the river). Every Sunday, the locals from the Triangle congregated on the hill to partake in their favourite pastime - drinking.

The showgrounds are in Flemington these days. Mustard Pot (talk) 23:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
