Kingwood Infobox

edit
  • Added Infobox and incorporated the Kingwood image from Houston, TX. Relevant data hasn't been entered yet. Please comment. I think it looks ok. I've been looking at pages like Houston, TX and [[The Woodlands, TX] for ideas to help add to and cleanup this page.

Deatonjr 23:45, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kingwood is part of Houston, so the city infobox is inappropriate here. Postoak 00:43, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Replaced image of Kingwood sign

Cleanup of Trivia Section

edit
  • I have initiated cleanup of the Trivia section. Most of the trivia was moved to Kingwood High School. Most of that trivia was also sports related, so I suggest creating a KHS subtopic for sports.
  • Deleted one piece about a middle school sports team, deemed TOO trvial for Kingwood trivia.
  • Suggestions for categorizing remaining trivia:
 --A list of Kingwood Churches
-- Creation of pages about Kingwood Country Club and Deerwood Country Club (Tin Cup), also Doug Sanders Celebrity Golf Classic.
-- Creation of a list for current and former famous Kingwood residents: George Foreman, Renee Olstead, etc.
-- List of notable Kingwood business: Administaff, etc.
edit
  • Moved some external links in the Events section to 'external links', and added 'citation needed' in the politics section in place of a broken link.
  • Removed recent trivia addition from Trivia section. KHS has produced hundreds of sports standouts over the years. What makes this particular one noteworthy? Comments welcome.
  • Removed claim from opening paragraph that Kingwood's growth was due primarily to white flight from Houston.

Deatonjr 21:37, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I probably would have asked for citation on Kingwood/white flight, but don't particularly object to you removeing it. The links have largely been taken care of with my one stroke deletion. They were way out of control and out of alignment with wikipedia policy. EvanCarroll 10:46, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

December 2006 Crime Item

edit

The trivia crime item from December 2006 was removed. The fact that a crime occurred does not make it notable trivia. The other crime item that is listed is due to the movie was based on the true life story. Beyond that, it is inappropriate to post facts about a case that has not gone to trial yet. Also, I fail to see the relevance that he had MySpace accounts.

This is the second time that this entry has been removed by two separate people, please do not add it again. --24.206.152.250 05:41, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Okay 1. I know what I'm doing. Do not lecture me on Wikipedia policies.

2. The crime made state headlines. Not notable enough to warrant its own article, perhaps, but definately notable enough to have a mention in this article, since the incident shook the community. WhisperToMe 06:29, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

The fact that you know the policies does not necessarily guarantee good judgment in applying them.

Any type of crime has an impact on the community. A bike gets stolen, a house gets broken into, they all shake the community. If you are arguing that this item warrants a listing, then you need to go back and list every felony in Kingwood's 30 year history. Are you going to list the suicide last week? The forcible entry last summer? The body found on Green Oak a year ago? The attack in the Randall's parking lot? Believe me they all had impact. This is not even the first time that two people have been found murdered in their homes. This is just the first time a sensational crime event has occurred since you stumbled on the online Kingwood community.

And I will say again, regardless of whether or not the item should be listed, which I do not believe it should be, the fact that he had MySpace accounts is completely irrelevant. He may wear Nikes, own an iPod and drive a Jeep. It doesn't mean it should be listed here. --Cma01 01:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I assume this is for the third opinion? If so, then it's obvious. While you can list crime statistics in the article where relevant, each crime does not deserve its own section, or even a mention, in the article. Simple as that.--Wizardman 01:27, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ditto on the above comments. The mention of such a crime may belong on a wiki for notable crimes in the Kingwood area, but not on the front page. Deatonjr 02:33, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

To clarify what I said, policies aren't just reversible to fit one's means. Although the crime certianly would not be notable if it didn't make headlines, just because it DID make headlines does not mean it should automatically be in the article. In other words, there is no reason to put it in. Apparently said case hasn't even gone to trial yet, so it should really just be removed altogether. Sad for the victims, but all in all non-notable.--Wizardman 04:30, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Subdivisions Edit

edit

The "Subdivisions" section was edited for clarity, changing the format of the village listings and combining some redundant information. Also, the section on status was removed as that is a subjective opinion. _________________________

Fourth of July Edit

edit

The title on the Fourth of July parade was changed to "Homecoming," which I corrected. If you would like to add the KHS homecoming parade, please do so. However, the 4th of July parade should stay the same. I don't particularly see the high school events as "community" events as the only time the high school seems interested in community participation is when selling things for fundraisers or donating to Project Graduation. --Cma01 03:09, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Holocaust March of Remembrance Edit

edit

I changed the date of the inaugural Holocaust March of Remembrance in the Houston area to 2012. The citation was an article from the Houston Chronicle for the 2021 march. I don't know if the Chronicle article misrepresented the date or if the person who added the event was just spitballing, but the first march was in 2012. I was one of the people who organized the first march. --Cma01 (talk) 19:46, 7 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kingwood Zip Edit

edit

Regarding the August 7th edit removing Kings River, Kingwood Glen, and the zip 77346 as part of Kingwood, whether or not a subdivision is considered part of Kingwood is not determined by what side of the lake it is on but whether it is a part of the Kingwood Service Association. These two villages are and part of 77346 is Kingwood. --Cma01 02:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Forest Cove

edit

Regarding the change to subdivisions, Forest Cove cannot be said to have "developed" around Kingwood. It was an existing development prior to Kingwood's existence. --Cma01 13:20, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kingwood Yard Sales

edit

I think that the Kingwood Yard Sales entry, would be more appropriate under the Trivia section. There are other Kingwood specific sites that offer similar services. While "most popular Kingwood site" is debateable depending on what measurement is used, (unique visitors, visits, page views, hits), what makes KYS unique beyond the popularity of the site is the fact that it has developed sister sites in other locations.

Below is my suggested revision for the entry under "Trivia":

Kingwood is also home to Kingwood Yard Sales, a service for residents providing an online alternative to the live yard sales prohibited by the Kingwood Homeowner's Association. The popular local site has spawned sister sites across Texas and the US using the same format.

Obvious vandalism fixed --128.62.119.132 07:19, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Cma01 regarding the placement of the KYS revision under the "Trivia" heading. I'll make the change accordingly. --Stinorama

Out-of-datable Information

edit

In the section titled "Politics / Representation", this text is currently present in the article:

...Joe Crabb, who won 70% of the vote in the last election

Unfortunately, wording like "in the last election" changes meaning over time. In an article which may not get frequent review, especially around the time of elections, this article may be viewed. This could have a profound impact on credibility. Ironiridis 04:40, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good point, why don't you fix it? Thanks, Postoak 04:57, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good question. I don't know anything about Kingwood, the issue is complicated, and I have a day job. Ironiridis 05:27, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just ran across WP:DATED, and I wasn't even aware that it was part of WP:MOS. It also brings up some excellent points. I will certainly look into adopting this article to eliminate the issues I see, but my response above stands; I have very little time to spend editing on Wikipedia. Reversion 4/19/2007

edit

I reverted the deletions to the Trivia section for several reasons. First, Administaff is a large company deserving of their own article. There is already an article devoted to an annual golf tournament hosted by them, why not more? Next, the teenage girl robberies that took place in the area are an interesting news story, and they had sources from local and national news outlets. Such a deletion should at least be accompanied with reasons. The editor provided none. Deatonjr 04:20, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleted again, no reason provided. Reverted. Postoak 22:59, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Census

edit

Kingwood.com is not a reliable source of information for a census. Please cite a government source, census authority or attribute to something that doesn't have a conflict of interest, as a commercial site for the community would. Furthermore, even if you find a reliable source, I would prefer you link to it rather than bloat the article with it. Wikipedia is not a census archive, and should not reproduce free government statistics on the whole. EvanCarroll 08:08, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redoing most of article

edit

Hope not to offend anyone who submitted the content that I've deleted. I've decided to push for featured article; and, I thought some pretty drastic changes were in order. I figure it will take a few more weeks to achieve it. EvanCarroll 10:58, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good work! I would get rid of the trivia section. Postoak 20:20, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm removing Kingwood is hometown to actress/singer Renee Olstead.[citation needed], because it can not be verified by me, add it back if you can find a reliable source. I have nothing wrong with a trivia section as long as the information is both verified and would be jarringly out of place in the article. EvanCarroll 22:20, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've cleaned up the trivia sections citations. EvanCarroll 23:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've removed the {{trivia}} tag as I no longer see it fit, and don't see a way to subout *all* of the information presented to eliminate the need of a trivia section. The alternative to the Trivia is overly short topics that have one or two bullets, like "Noteable Residents", with a "Current," and "Prior," subcat. This seems like a worse alternative as the Trivia is not yet unwieldy or distractive. EvanCarroll 23:13, 30 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

RJN Edits

edit

I disagree with RJNs edits under the basis: (a) that they are not cited; (b) they replaced previously cited ones; (c) and, they make confusing the difference between the territorial Kingwood, and the subdivision/psuedo-town Kingwood. The numbers he replaces them with, are not just not cited but they aren't telling you what kingwood they refer to. At the very least my documentation shows the term kingwood in the wild exists as two terms. EvanCarroll 04:20, 6 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kingwood "Territory" vs Kingwood "Psuedo-Town"

edit

Kingwood, Texas is a master-planned community. What "is" Kingwood and what is "not" is whether or not the villages pay into the Kingwood Service Association. Part of Kingwood is in Harris County, part is in Montgomery. Part of it is in the City of Houston, part is in unincorporated Harris County.

That is Kingwood. And yes it makes a difference. You can't get a trails map, a K sticker, and use some of the amenities if you don't actually live in KSA dues paying Kingwood. It is confusing, which is the whole point of the clarification.

KingwoodOnline.com/Friendswood used to be the "official" site for Kingwood before it was turned over to KSA. Now it is simply the marketing arm for Friendswood Development and its local developments, primarily Oakhurst.

If there is an "official" site, it would be the Kingwood Service Association, www.kingwoodserviceassociation.org.

And I would really like someone to take me to this City of Houston park that keeps getting posted and moved from section to section. Please show me where it is. I don't care where you found it on some COH site, there is nothing there. --Cma01 06:54, 8 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Cma01. The definition of Kingwood is actually quite vague and complex. There are overlapping jurisdictions, people who pay dues KSA, etc. etc. People who live in the city of Houston and people who don't. It would be different if there was a published history of the place, like for the Woodlands. Good luck to whoever is pushing for featured article, though. Deatonjr 20:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kingwood annexation source

We could use http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/1996/11/25/editorial6.html to source a point of view regarding Kingwood's annexation. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:29, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

City Council Representation

edit

There were redundant sentences stating that Michael Sullivan was the City Council Member for the area. The second, stand alone sentence to that effect was removed; the citation was added to the end of the first sentence about Houston City Council representation.

Article needs updating

edit

There are parts of this article that really need to be updated. I edited the article to indicate that the library built back in the 1980s has been demolished, but the whole article really needs a thorough review.Tetsuo (talk) 16:02, 9 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
