Banaszak
editThe reference to John Banaszak winning multiple Super Bowls with the Steelers is obviously relevant given the fact that Ravenstahl is the mayor of the city of the team for which Banszak played. We're not talking about a little league team, but the champions of the NFL. If you thought the Banaszak reference was an aside, then why didn't you remove all references to Banaszak? In any case, this connection between Ravenstahl and Banaszak is an intriguing piece of trivia with regard to Ravenstahl's personal life.
I have his highschool yearbook picture around here somewhere... should I scan it in? :-)

Statment about nepotism and cronyism
editUnless it can be proven, the following statment expresses a borderline non-neutral point of view and has little to no relevance to an encyclopedic entry:
"...positions often associated with the blatant nepotism and cronyinsm so often attributed to government in Pittsburgh."
Please cite sources and re-word so as to sound factual and un-biased, rather than an (be it modest) attack on the integrity of public service in Pittsburgh. Also, cronyism has been spelled wrong, but it is not my place to correct the error, since I don't believe the statement should be there in the first place. (Sinisterminister 20:23, 5 January 2007 (UTC))
- It's bullshit POV, and it has been removed. Good job assuming good faith, but it was part of a series of vandalism. --Chris Griswold (☎☓) 08:24, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Conflict of interest
editIt is inappropriate for someone who works for the city of Pittsburgh to blank an article simply because it documents the mayor's scandal. --Chris Griswold (☎☓) 00:55, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Clarification/Correction
editI'm a reporter for WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. A web version of one of my reports is cited as a source in the Wikipedia entry on Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, but the citation's summary is mistaken. The Wikipedia entry--under the sub-heading "Controversy"--says:
"The rumors spread to other Pittsburgh politics blogs and then to the mainstream media, forcing Ravenstahl to go public to dispel the rumors."
That's not correct.
The entry's 'footnote 12' links to the following article on WTAE's ThePittsburghChannel.com:
That article says:
"In less than 24 hours, the claims exploded across the Internet, spreading to other Pittsburgh blogs and sites...McIntire's blog forced Ravenstahl to go public to dispel the rumors."
Within that Pittsburgh Channel article (a staff rewrite of my TV story), you can view video of my original January 18, 2007 report on WTAE:
In it, I reported:
"His blog forced Mayor Ravenstahl to go public with his answer to those rumors. It was the mayor's response that triggered mainstream media coverage and a spotlight on those claims. " (Emphasis added.)
The Wikipedia entry as written suggests that the news media reported unconfirmed rumors and that there was no incident. The Mayor himself personally confirmed that there was an incident. We only reported on the rumors stemming from the incident to the extent that the mayor had chosen to make public comments disputing them. See the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review articles linked below.
_______________________________________________________________________________
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
"Ravenstahl admits to but makes no apology for incident at 2005 Steelers game"
"Mayor explains run-in with cop"
_______________________________________________________________________________
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
"Ravenstahl admits to scrape but denies using his political sway"
_______________________________________________________________________________
I'd prefer not take on the role of editing the entry myself, but I'm offering the information here for consideration by those who monitor this 'talk' section.
Thanks.

- Thanks for bringing this up - I think I've fixed the wording so its more accurate. Do you think so? Have a good one! Wickethewok 03:35, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- It looks improved enough to pass. For FA, however, the article needs a full copyedit and the references need to be properly formated. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 13:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Headshot photo
editI email Ravenstahl's media people, asking them for permission to use a headshot photo for the infobox. No response yet--maybe someone else can try?--TheZachMorrisExperience (talk) 07:20, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Move to Luke Steelerstahl
editWhy not? Grsz11 00:55, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- 'Cause he didn't really change his name! It is a Steeler stunt. Like how Greenburg "changed" their name to "Steelersburg" for Super Bowl XL (since Green is a Seahawk color). Also, for Super Bowl XXX, Dallas Avenue in Squirrel Hill became Steelers Avenue. Everyone stop trying to move the page.--Protocop (talk) 01:08, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Don't worry, it's now move protected. --Matt (talk) 01:22, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- If you fill out papers, how is that not changing your name? [6]. Grsz11 01:31, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- From [7], "On Wednesday morning, the mayor began, but did not complete, an official name change petition, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported." So his name is still legally Ravenstahl. Please stop changing it to Steelerstahl in the article. --Matt (talk) 01:38, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Boldface heading for Pat Ford?
editUnder "Criticism and Controversies", the lot of the business surrounding former Ravenstahl "development czar" is contained as a bullet within "Other Controversies". I think that might deserve a heading of its own. It surely has been the most serious and long-winded controversy of the administration, more so than Banner-gate and questionable use of the police vehicle.

Edits from individuals with possible conflicts of interest
edit205.141.129.33 (talk · contribs), which is an IP address belonging to the Pittsburgh city government and which has a lengthy history of COI edits, began editing in tandem with Username7891 (talk · contribs) on 31 August on the article Luke Ravenstahl. While some of the edits appeared non-controversial, others appeared to be attempts at white-washing or POV-pushing. (Edit: I do not intend to pass final judgement in saying that; I'm sure there are legitimate neutrality issues to work out, as there are in any article. But notably, the changes made were all flattering to Ravenstahl, including the deletion of legitimate sourced material.) I have chosen to roll back all of these edits so that we can bring the matter forward for discussion. I also left COI notices on the talk pages of both editors. However, as I type this, I see that Username7891 (talk · contribs) has resumed editing the article. I will invite both users to this talk page to discuss the issue. —Bill Price (nyb) 19:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Update 1: Username7891 (talk · contribs) has responded to my concerns by simply undoing my reversion. I hope that he or she plans to follow up with a written response. Regardless, I will solicit the attention of the Pittsburgh WikiProject in resolving the issue. —Bill Price (nyb) 19:56, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Update 2: Username7891 (talk · contribs) is still continuing to edit the article, which implies that he or she does not intend to communicate on this talk page. I have gone to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Luke_Ravenstahl to seek further advice. —Bill Price (nyb) 20:11, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Update 3: Some of the edits made by Username7891 (talk · contribs) contain copyright infringements, such as one, two. I have warned the user, but have not reverted any of the edits, because I do not intend to engage in edit-warring. —Bill Price (nyb) 20:18, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
Possible new round of COI edits
editCivil585 (talk · contribs) is presently a single-purpose account which has so far edited Luke Ravenstahl in only positive ways. These edits have not been disruptive like the edits of Username7891 (talk · contribs) were—at least, not so far. I will keep an eye on this. —Bill Price (nyb) 15:27, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Non-NPOV section
editCivil585 (talk · contribs) added Pittsburgh's Third Renaissance today. The section is written in a non-neutral tone which is complimentary to Ravenstahl. I wish to repeat my earlier concern that Civil585 is possibly one of the previously-blocked editors who were suspected of conflicts of interest. —Bill Price (nyb) 19:32, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

GA Reassessment
edit- This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Luke Ravenstahl/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.
This article has been on my watch list, and I was surprised to find today that it was a GA.
- Not neutral. It seems to vacillate between overly glowing praise (See Pittsburgh promise and Market Square revitalization) and a list of unflattering incidents (see the entire Criticism and controversies especially Questionable use of police vehicle, Banner-Gate, and, I kid you not Other incidents which is literally a list of criticisms). This thing is a textbook WP:Coatrack, but for both pro-and anti-Ravenstahl POV warriors, with each side taking control of different parts of the same article. See the talkpage for more on that battle. Basically, I think the whole article beginning with his term as mayor needs to be re-written. Until then, it's far from GA material.--GrapedApe (talk) 23:59, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- How goes the reassessment? AIRcorn (talk) 12:56, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Not well, no one has begun the reassessment.--GrapedApe (talk) 14:42, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Technically you have by choosing an individual assessment. Basically you need to say what is wrong with the article (like above) and then let major contributors and wikiprojects know. If your concerns are addressed you can list is as kept, if they are not delist. You may be wanting a community reassessment instead, where other editors chime in on the suitability of an Good article. AIRcorn (talk) 22:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- In that case, this should be de-listed. It's been >1 month, and no effort from any number of notified projects [8][9][10][11]. Please advise on next step--GrapedApe (talk) 22:54, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Write a note here saying that it has been delisted (usually bolded). Remove the {{GAR/link|23:50, 29 May 2012 (UTC)|page=2|GARpage=1|status= }} template from the talk page and update the article history one. Just add action2=GAR, action2date=the date etc and change current status to DGA (delisted Good article). Then go to Wikipedia:Good articles/Social sciences and society and delete the article from the list. I can double check everything for you. AIRcorn (talk) 23:53, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Oh and change the Wikiproject ratings to B or whatever you think is appropriate. AIRcorn (talk) 23:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- In that case, this should be de-listed. It's been >1 month, and no effort from any number of notified projects [8][9][10][11]. Please advise on next step--GrapedApe (talk) 22:54, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
