Tsebo Outsourcing Group is a South African outsourcing company based in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The company was founded as a contract catering business in 1971,[1] and today provides contract catering, cleaning, facilities management, outsourced procurement, hygiene systems, and energy management solutions.[2][3] It operates in South Africa and in neighboring African countries including Mozambique, as well as many countries across Africa, and the Middle East.[4] Today Tsebo employs over 20,000 people, operates in 12 countries and manages over 4,000 client sites.

Tsebo employs technical experts in the fields of catering, engineering, environmental science, and related services, and invests in staff development.[5] Each manager must complete post-graduate business school education funded by Tsebo, and Tsebo's in-house academy has trained over 20,000 technical staff in the past three years.[5]

  • Tsebo Hygiene Solutions, which trades as Tsebo Hygiene Services.
  • Tsebo Energy Solutions, which trades as Tsebo Energy Solutions, and Powerstar.

Economic Empowerment in South Africa

Tsebo and its subsidiaries have a history of support for the South African government's Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) program, which aims to redress the economic injustices of the Apartheid era.[1] Fedics introduced its first BEE policy and affirmative action program in 1981.[1]Tsebo's first BEE transactions were concluded in 1996, and in 2005 the company became one of the first organizations of its size to achieve 'excellent' BEE accreditation.[1] Today, it is one of the largest Level 2 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment contributors in South Africa, with a Black Economic Empowerment rating of 94.1%.[6][2]

Philanthropy

Tsebo's philanthropic activities included an HIV/AIDS healthcare access program in 1999 and a disability awareness program that in 2009 created jobs for over 200 disabled South Africans.[1] The company celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2011 with the launch of the Tsebo Foundation, a charitable organization working for improvements in education and health.[1]
