- Annual Wikidata Fellowship Grant One New Zealand and two Australian fellowships available. Applications opened on 9 January and close on Sunday 26 February 2023. We are open to applicants from all backgrounds and skill levels, and support proposals that involve investigations. We are looking for proposals that are enthusiastic and innovative as opposed to requiring pre-existing technical skills. This is an opportunity to get paid to learn. Curate a data set, develop a prototype or undertake an investigation using Wikidata. You will be matched with a Wikimedian who will mentor you throughout your project offering resources, feedback and support. Check out the Annual Wikidata Fellowship Grant fellowship grant page for more details.
- Wikimania Scholarships link - open until Sunday, 5 February. Ambrosia10 has completed the process and found it relatively straightforward. Wikimania 2023 16 - 19 August 2023. Please apply.
3. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on
- Marshelec has had his first article accepted as a WP:GA. See: Wangapeka Track. Also involved as a supporting reviewer for the Good article nomination of West Auckland, New Zealand. He has also been directly assisting with improvements to the article Tellico Dam - a nominee for Good Article that he failed a while ago. Some flow-on work is also underway after approving Good Article status for Perry County, Tennessee. Marshelec is supporting a Flickr user who has offered access to an album of beautiful photos of a State Park in Perry County - Mousetail Landing State Park, but lost access to her Flickr account a few years ago after a house fire. Marshelec has created a new article for the hiking trail in Upper Hutt: Cannon Point Walkway. He has also published a new stub article: Blue Baths about the heritage listed baths building in the Government Gardens in Rotorua. Heaps more to do on this, but it was a surprise to find there wasn't already ar article for this notable and most unusual building. Has also split the Wellington City Libraries article, creating a new article for the Wellington Central Library building, given that it is definitely notable in its own right. Much more work to do on this article as well. This library building article is a joint project with Wainuiomartian. Others are welcome to chip in :)
- Wainuiomartian (talk) 19:59, 20 January 2023 (UTC) has created articles for the BNZ Harbour Quays building and Max Patté (sculptor of 'Solace in the Wind') and is working with Marshelec on Wellington Central Library. Working on deconsecrated church and took photos for WikiCommons.
- Einebillion - Presidential stuff and organising meet-ups. Annual report and mid term funding reports have been submitted. Meeting with Auckland Museum staff and talked with their Wikimedian is residence is coming to Wellington WikiCon. In September successful with their second bid. They are getting two editors funded by Wikimedia foundation. Hoping for mentors from user group in November. Staff member is a new editor but willing to restarting meet-ups. The person who was running that meetup has moved to MOTAT and is keen to get that organisation. May end up doing physical meeting then on line meetup for Auckland. Discussion amongst group about the Auckland Meeting and how to get consistency. Auckland Museum offered to host a conference later in this year. Digital Channels outreach at Te Papa about what they might want to do after finishing the forget-me-nots project. Now looking at the next piece of work. #EditingForEditing editathon. Copyright letter to EMBI for copyright review and free trade agreement kicks in. Extending copyright extension for 20 years. Talking with advocacy group as well. Has to be careful as a result of job. Wikimedia Foundation person wanting to see that before she sends it.
- Ambrosia10 - Collaboration with American academics to get CURE underway, Women in Genera project is continuing. Discussed in detail making a rapid funding grant (see below for more information). Organised and participated the #EditingForEffie editathon.
- Quilt Phase - Took a break from Wikipedia in general. Now back at tinkering around the edges. He's also working on the New Zealand films article as it needs improvement to be useful. NZHPT buildings in Wellington. He's been trying to figure out SPRQL queries heritage items in Wellington region that don't have images. He's trying to cover all the gaps in Wikicommons, Wikidata and Wikipedia. OpenRefine game and be able to do upload images in bulk. Einebillion has documentation about this which she will ensure he gets the link. Recommends iphone 14 pro as perfect for this out and about images work.
- Gertrude206 - Wellington sculpture trust page has been created. Stimulated by articles on Stuff. Nothing much apart from "wiki gardening". Hoping to do more this year.
- Chocmilk03 - Missed December catchup. ESAP conference attendance in November. Continue with women in NZ literature but has also been extending her work out to women NZ artists. Einebillion - talked about ESAP conference. Diversity of affiliates and community was very eye opening. Communities seeing these open and free platforms as ways of preserving their language and cultures. Its coming from people in their villages and towns - community led. Data cards, data time etc being asked for. Koreans talking about getting a young, disengaged population getting involved where they don't get paid for it. Einebillion says we've got a demographic here for age. Super exciting.
- Pakoire - organising Wellington WikiCon. Meeting with Kasi Valu around the Pasifika keynote session and more Pasifika editors. WOW (World of Wikipedia) conference in Nov 2022 and presenting with Sophia Coghini about the Pasifika Arts has revitalised this work. Getting more folk interested. Wrote articles about some Māori artists who had previously been omitted. Going to Waitangi for Waitangi weekend. Discussion about this trip. She is intending to meet in person and talk more and undertake relationship building about a Matike Mai project.

- SPNHC 2023 Ambrosia10 is in the process of making a rapid funding grant to the Wikimedia Foundation to attend this conference in person. It to be held in San Francisco from 28th of May until the 2nd of June 2023. She was sponsored by the Society for the Protection of Natural History Collections to attend the 2022 virtual conference and, in her report back last year at the Aotearoa New Zealand online Wiki meeting, noted she was planning on attempting to attend the 2023 conference in person. She has submitted an abstract entitled Reuse in the Wiki world empowers engagement with Natural History Collections into the Broadening Access and Use of Natural History Collections Through Innovative Approaches and Engagement symposium. There is also a possibility that she will also submit an abstract on her work with the Women Genera project. She has emailed the WANZ committee asking whether it would be permitted to apply for funding to them but was advised that the money budgeted by the committee for funding conference attendance would not cover her costs. The committee advised she apply for a Wikimedia Foundation rapid grant.
