May 2015
editHello, I'm Amaury. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Dowry law in India— because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Amaury (talk) 03:31, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Merging two articles
editHi Sm1986. I'm a content expert for the Wiki Education foundation. I see you're looking to merge Dowry law in India into Dowry system in India. Your professor has shared your account of your contributions on wikipedia and from reading that I'm convinced that merging the two pages is the correct thing do to. In this case you've correctly identified that the two articles describe essentially the same subject and one does so better than the other (and is likely a more appropriate title, since the system extends beyond law and into social norms and traditions). There are a few ways you can go about merging the two pages.
If you feel this is something that needs community participation, you can propose a merge by following the steps here. It involves opening a talk page discussion where you leave your reasoning for the merge and adding templates to both pages. Once there is a consensus for or against the merge the discussion will be closed by an uninvolved editor and the pages will be merged. As that page states, if you feel the merger is obvious and uncontroversial, you need not use this procedure, but it is helpful to know it exists.
Since this appears to be (largely) uncontroversial, you may merge the page yourself by following these steps:
- 1. Redirect Dowry law in India to Dowry system in India by replacing the contents of Dowry law in India page with the following:
#REDIRECT [[Dowry system in India]] {{R from merge}}
- This sends readers to the correct page if they are following a link to the old one (either on wikipedia or from another site)
- 2. On Talk:Dowry system in India, add
{{Merged-from|Dowry law in India|5 June 2015}}
. This will give editors some indication of where new content may be coming from. - 3. On Talk:Dowry law in India, add
{{Merged-to|Dowry system in India|5 June 2015}}
. This will let administrators and other editors know that they shouldn't delete the now-redirected article.
That's it! If you want to add content from the merged article to Dowry system in India you may, but those are the necessary steps to merge the two.
It looks like your edit here was reverted because it didn't replace the page with a redirect, not out of any concern that a merge/redirect itself would be objectionable.
I can do this for you if you like, but as with most things on wikipedia it's fun to do them yourself. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 19:29, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Hi Adam, thank you for your suggestions as well as guidance on how to complete the merger. I have proceeded to make the changes that you suggested and there should now be redirect links on the talk pages of both articles. Hope this is fine! Sm1986 (talk) 02:51, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
editHi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:59, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
