Sorry, a regression from 82c5424 that unfortunately already impacted Update: A fix has been pushed, so please manually install https://code.visualstudio.com/insiders/ over your current installation. |
So just proceed by clicking Yes rather than uninstalling my current version first? |
IIRC I said No, uninstalled Insiders, then installed from the EXE. |
Thanks! I will uninstall and then reinstall. Edit: For those who might have been curious about the same things as myself... Yes, linked account(s) stayed signed in and all previously installed extensions/settings remained. |

Windows users on insiders. Since they are now on a version that cannot update without failure, you will have to manually install a good version from before.Please manually install the latest version from https://code.visualstudio.com/insiders/ to get updates again.

Steps to Reproduce:
Have a user-type installation of VS Code
Check for updates
See (1) badge on gearwheel
Use its "Install Update... (1)" option.
Receive a UAC dialog and approve it.
See a VS Code notification.
Click "Update Now"
VS Code Insiders closes and an error messagebox appears:

The updater mistakenly seems to think it is updating a System type installation.
