Python program to read and parse RSS feeds from command line (CLI).

usage: rssread.py [-h] [-d] [-v] -f FEED [FEED ...] [-o] [-t] [-y] [-n NUMBER] [-b FROM_DAY] [-e TO_DAY]
                  [-s SEPARATOR] [--no-link] [--no-date] [--no-summary] [--no-summary-detail] [--no-content]

This program reads news from RSS feeds.

optional arguments:
  -h, --help            show this help message and exit
  -d, --debug           Print debug information.
  -v, --verbose         Print verbose output.
  -f FEED [FEED ...], --feed FEED [FEED ...]
                        Specify RSS feed URL. E.g. --feed https://hnrss.org/frontpage.
  -o, --tor             Use Tor, go through Tor Socks5 proxy.
  -t, --today           Get today's entries from RSS feed.
  -y, --yesterday       Get yesterday's entries from RSS feed
  -n NUMBER, --number NUMBER
                        Number of last entries to get from from RSS feed. Default is "3".
  -b FROM_DAY, --from-day FROM_DAY
                        Specify a 'from' date, i.e. an earliest day allowed. Specify in format YYYY-MM-DD such as
                        2021-02-25.
  -e TO_DAY, --to-day TO_DAY
                        Specify a 'to' date, i.e. a latest day allowed. Specify in format YYYY-MM-DD such as
                        2021-02-26.
  -s SEPARATOR, --separator SEPARATOR
                        Specify a separator to be printed after each RSS entry. Default is "". E.g. use "\n" to
                        print an empty line. Or use "==================\n" to print a dashed line.
  --no-link             Don't print the "Link" record of the RSS entry.
  --no-date             Don't print the "Publish Date" record of the RSS entry.
  --no-summary          Don't print the "Summary" record of the RSS entry.
  --no-summary-detail   Don't print the "Summary Detail" record of the RSS entry.
  --no-content          Don't print the "Content" record of the RSS entry.

Examples

# get the post from today
rssread.py --feed "https://hnrss.org/frontpage" --today
# get the post from yesterday
rssread.py --feed "https://hnrss.org/frontpage" --yesterday
# get last 3 posts
rssread.py -feed "https://hnrss.org/frontpage" --number 3
# get multiple feeds example: 
rssread.py -feed https://feed1.io https://feed2.com --today -n 10
# get from a specific day range in past
rssread.py -f http://feed3.com -b 2021-02-20 -e 2021-02-21 -n 1000
