Calvinius@commons

@Calvinius: Do you own the global account "MartinGrandjean"? If so, you have to do a confirmation edit using that account and thus confirming it's your account. --Stryn (talk) 13:23, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
@Stryn: Yes I do (but do you want a confirmation here or on the Commons profile?), it was an incomplete attempt a few months ago... Please note that I request an username change only for the 'Calvinius' Commons account (that means that the other accounts bound by this 'MartinGrandjean' global account can be deleted). Thanks for your work! --MartinGrandjean (talk) 18:27, 2 May 2015 (UTC)
So I confirm that this previous message is from me ;) To be clear, my wish would be to keep my Calvinius username for every projects (Calvinius) except for Wikimedia Commons, where I wish to use the MartinGrandjean username (I hope it's understandable). --Calvinius (talk) 18:38, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

As I'm not active across any of the other projects, and I have no plans to be, is there no way to keep the username I fought for? David~enwiki (talk) 02:06, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately it's been decided that having unified accounts with the same name should be the norm (so things like a central watchlist could work), and that those with most edits/flags have priority. -- Mentifisto 04:55, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Stryn, thank you for the reply. As I explained in the link above, I do not have an account. I tried to create the account "tshombe" but received the message that it was already in use. Elsewhere, however, I'm told the account is not registered and has been renamed at tshombe~enwiki. I would like to claim "tshombe," and use it everywhere. What do I need to do to claim the name and begin logging into the account? Thank you!

Actually 233 edits is pretty much... I would kindly ask you to choose another username that is available. --Stryn (talk) 16:35, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Yes, but those edits were made a long time ago and the account is stale. And apart from the kk.wiki, the name has not ever been used in any other global wiki. I would expect that there would be a case of precedence for a user with 52,000+ edits in comparison to a stale one with 200. Mar4d (talk) 18:26, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
The account is and has been used by another person, we respect their contributions and the name is not available; we ask that you choose another.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:50, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

stalemate. We cannot delete accounts, and you have not selected a username to which we can move you, so I will close this request, and if you find a username that suits you, then please submit a new request.

There has been much communication about this issue to address why this has been done, what has been done, and the effects of it. There was many attempts to engage language wikis in the process by WMF over many months. There was personal contact with accounts at the end explaining exactly what was going to happen. Due diligence was undertaken.

You are one of many people being renamed due to sharing a username, as there is now the requirement for unique usernames to resolve issues and to progress development. You have been renamed to this account name, and the previous account name is not available (as per correspondence and explanation). Yes, it is a less than perfect solution for a legacy issue, though it was the best solution available, and to allow the site to continue to progress and to provide tools and features that users are demanding. We are where we are.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:58, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

it is ridiculous that WMF right to change the account name, and i don't have right to request for delete all of my edits and account??? if you don't want to change my name to former it is too simple DELETE all my account.why? because you have a ridiculous right to change username of member and It is legal wright BUT if i want to delete my account because of you changing my username is not legal?!!--Amin~fawiki (talk) 03:03, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Mate, I don't make the rules or do the developing, I am letting you know of the limitations that exist. If you believe that you should have the right to delete an account, then please start a discussion as RFC or submit a phabricator: ticket. If you believe what has occurred is contrary to the terms of use then please follow the resolution process as expressed there. Here we are trying to do our best to assist resolve issues with the scope of our powers.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:54, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Are you OK? i tell you i want my name and it is illegal that wikipedia change my name without my allow and you tell me submit a request in phabricator????

BUT why WMF change my name? why change my name Without my permission? please show me what paragraph of your term of use or other pages in past write that wikipedia change my username in future? please show me? it is ridiculous--Amin~fawiki (talk) 08:11, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
Yes, WMF can obviously change your name and did this in order to enable global, Wikimedia-wide accounts. See SUL finalization. --MF-W 10:58, 7 May 2015 (UTC)
what?this page create in April 2013 not in 2001 or 2008 or 2010.if i register after April 2013 ,I had no right to protest. this rule not for former user it is ridiculous that WMF right to change the account name because of this rule in April 2013.if you add this to Registration Rules at first when i register and i accept that now I had no right to protest and it is OK , because i accept that in past. Now i don't accept this in past if i know WMF have this permission to change my user name in future i don't register and edit in that.It is ridiculous that you're referring me to the page--Amin~fawiki (talk) 14:56, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

TheF@fr.wikipedia and Fraf@en.wikipedia

Hi,

Before SUL I had two different local accounts, "TheF" on fr.wikipedia and commons, and "Fraf" on en.wikipedia ; "Fraf" is the username I use to take on various other project, but it was already taken when I created my account on fr., in 2008 ; the same way, "TheF" wasn't free when I created my second local account on en. ; now with the changes of the SUL, I got two global accounts ; being for now impossible to merge them together, I'd like that my second account, Fraf, would be renamed as "Fraf2" (or anything else available, please just tell me wich...), so the username "Fraf" would get free again, and then, that my main account, TheF, would be rename as "Fraf".

For what I understood, I will be able to ask for a merge of the two accounts later, when the Merge tool will be available, am I right ? And for now, that will allow me to keep contributing on both wikis without having to unlog/relog each time I switch...

Thanks for helping me, not sure I was perfectly clear, so don't hesitate to ask me for precisions (including to prove I am the same person using the two accounts, not sure I confirmed it the right way...

Sol@nlwikibooks

Your account here on the English Wikipedia is not eligible to have a cloak (less than 250 edits)...
If you don't own either of those accounts, I can't set you a cloak

Meest recent idd in 2012.

Teevati@global

Hi Teevati, the "Grove~enwiki" account has 0 edits. Combining 0 edits with the "Teevati" account would not change anything. Also we currently do not have the tools to merge accounts (all we can do is swith local accounts). All the best, Taketa (talk) 05:47, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Hi Taketa, thank You for a swift response. I didn't realise that I hadn't made any edits with "Grove" (now "Grove~enwiki) before adding "Teevati" as a global account back in the day. Regards. Teevati (talk) 06:08, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Arvedui@global

Status:    nothing to do

I got a notice on Meta here that the name Arvedui was taken and would need to be changed, but I've been Arvedui at en.wiki since at least early 2005 as well as most every other wiki account I've ever joined over the past decade. Is it possible that I'm conflicting with my own name somehow? Is there really another Wikimedia Arvedui predating me? --Arvedui (talk) 09:01, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Not done It's not taken; as you see you're logged in as "Arvedui" so it is very likely that you still own the account. You got the message on March, and your Meta account was attached to global account in April. --Stryn (talk) 13:48, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
Oh good. I wasn't sure of the timeframe for the global name-changes and if they had already happened yet or not. Thanks! --Arvedui (talk) 05:10, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
