We have to say, we absolutely love the internet. Any video can go viral and have social media in a chokehold – just look at Tube Girl and the unexpected summer hit that is Girl on Couch’s Looking For a Man in Finance.
And the latest clip to amass many a view online is no different. Only, instead of having you in a chokehold, maybe it’ll have you gagging – in more ways than one (sorry, not sorry).
It features ‘Hawk Tuah Girl’, otherwise known as Hailey Welch. How did she get this now-infamous moniker, you ask?
Well, it came about during a man-on-the-street interview by creators Tim & Dee TV, who asked a series of questions before posing their final, though-provoking query: ‘What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?’
Hailey’s friend can be seen nudging her to answer – and the response was priceless.
‘You gotta give ’em that “hawk tuah” and spit on that thang,’ she burst out saying, clearly mimicking the sound of ‘hawking a loogie’ – or expectorating. But, let’s be real, she’s talking about going down on a guy and spitting on their appendage.
Whether you’re amused or astounded, it’s gone viral, and been the source of many memes over the past week.
The reactions have been equally as wild, to say the least, and it’s been shared so many times that reposts have more views than the original.

While some reactions are far too vulgar for us to include here, David Astill92 commented: ‘She sounds like such a fun person,’ while Marcell Csizy posted: ‘I fell in love…’. We bet you have, Marcell!
The rumour mill has also been hard at work, with people claiming that Welch had not only lost her job, but that she has been signed by a talent agency – neither of which have been substantiated.
However, rumours aside, we can confirm that Hawk Tuah Girl does, indeed, have a merchandise line up and running.
Tim & Dee TV is selling Hawk Tuah hats and t-shirts, reading: ‘If she don’t hawk tuah, I don’t want to talk tuah.’ And honestly, we’re fans.
Welch has also gone into business with Fathead Threads, a family-owned business based in Marshall County, Tennessee, run by Jason Poteete.
Poteete told Rolling Stone that our Hawk Tuah Girl is ‘overwhelmed’ by becoming an internet sensation overnight and that she has requested for her face to not feature on any of the merch.
He added: She’s probably one of the most well-known people in the world at this point. But I don’t know if she’s embraced it.’
But jokes and monetisation aside, spitting plays a key part in many people’s sex lives.
Metro.co.uk spoke to Annabelle Knight, sex and relationships expert at Lovehoney, to find out exactly why this is.
Why do people like spitting during sex?
Spitting is a classic act of dominance and submission, which is one of the reasons why it is so popular; the “spitter” acts as the dominant party, exerting power over the other person which can turn one or both people involved on.
Playing around with this power dynamic in a sexual setting is usually something that people don’t experience in their day-to-day lives, which is a part of what makes it so alluring.
The fact that spitting is (or perhaps should be) a social taboo outside of the bedroom adds an extra element of spice when participating in spit play.
We also know that spitting is prevalent in pornography and something that has been copied; a 2023 Lovehoney survey found that 21% of 18-24-year-olds that have imitated porn have tried spitting.
How can I chat to my partner about it if I want to experiment myself?
As with all things sex – and particularly when it comes to kink – it all starts with good communication. You should be as open as possible with your partner that you want to try it, but can start by asking if it would be something they would be in to, as this may take some of the pressure off them, versus immediately saying you want to try it.
See if they would be willing to try it once, and then go from there – you might either both love it or hate it, but won’t know until you try!
Hawk Tuah Girl is referencing oral sex, but what about spitting in other aspects of your sex life?
My number one mantra for any type of sex is that lubrication is key, and while not as effective as normal lube, spit does offer some assistance.
On spitting during oral, this is probably the most obvious example of the dom/sub power dynamics, as the person performing oral has complete control in that scenario.
It can also work just as well pre-penetration, and for some people even the thought of spitting into one another’s mouth is enough to turn them on.
How can I incorporate spitting into my own sex life?
During oral sex is probably the most ‘natural’ time to incorporate spitting into your sex life, as your mouth is already there and it plays into the power dynamics we’ve already spoken about.
It can also be used during any form of penetration; for example you could spit on your fingers (or put them in your own/your partner’s mouth) before inserting into the vagina, and could also do the same if using a sex toy, although probably only for dildos!
If you are having penetrative sex then you could spit on the penis or vulva before penetration. It may be courteous to brush your teeth or swill some mouthwash before you do any of the above however!
